Wins like tonight are so huge for this team.

For this group of young guys to battle through this together is going to payoff big time downt he road. Soler, Rizzo, Bryant, Castro all involved in the 9th inning rally.

I'm not even worried about keeping pace in the division right now. Just enjoying watching these kids grow without the high expectations.

One thing I've noticed about Bryant is he's a very heads up base runner. Taking 3rd on Castro's hit. We don't take the lead without him doing that.

That shite was fun to watch.

About Bryant's base running. Overly aggressive, he got away with it twice already. Once on the LL HR & last night when he made too big a turn at 2nd but for some reason they didn't make a throw. Love the enthusiasm but I bet Joe had a lil chat with him. Lol

That's just who the cubs are going to be. He's adjusting (i expect he's been told you have to be aggressive but smart, and rookies make mistakes), but i expect a lot of tootblan's this year...but I also expect the cubs to go 1st to 3rd and challenge every outfielder.

My only gripe with bryant, and it's a stretch to even call it a gripe, was his slide into home...he beat that ball and should've been easily safe (i still think he was and the umps blew another one).

Hopefully Castro has done enough already this week so that the fans can put a moratorium on the "trade castro for a bag of balls" talk until at least next week.

Yeah, I guess he thought he had it beat easily. Was waiting for a hook

The Castro thing will be interesting. I'm pro-Castro. He made a huge jump last year & looks to have made a bigger one this year, especially defensively. But with Russell just waiting to take his spot, is Castro eventually getting traded no matter what? His contract in relation to the production he's about to give us would make it hard to get equal value back. We'd have to get Kershaw in return, lol

I don't think Castro is going anywhere. The only reason why it was even a thing that he could is that the Cubs have a glut of middle infielders.

Baez is no sure thing, but let's just say he does work out his kinks in the minors and can come back with plate discipline AND power in June. The Cubs will move somebody to 3B and Bryant to LF and will be devouring pitching for years to come.

Right now, Baez's demotion and time to grieve have stalled his progress immensely and Starlin Castro has become close to untouchable.

Makes sense. But defensively, is Russell gonna be better than Castro? And if so, will Castro voluntarily push to 3rd or 2nd? Could u imagine Baez @2, russell @ss, Castro @3? Bryant, Fowler & Soler in OF...where does that leave schwarber? Moving back to C?

ETA: and who the hell hits 9th?!?! Lol

Look at Joe West's performance last night. I'm just now processing this stuff, but it's apparent that he was blind last night.

I love that this kind of stuff is available for us to see and also evaluate the umpires.

And late in the game a pirate struck out on a called strike that was just slightly higher & more outside than a pitch called a ball earlier in the at bat

The consensus is that Russell is the best defensive shortstop in the organization. But Castro is also having a great year. I don't know the answer to that question long term. I'll leave that to the Cubs.

As far as Schwarber, they like his progress at catcher. Again, I don't know how that holds long term, but his bat is going to elevate him through the minors quickly. The Schwarber thing is a 2017 problem, though.

Exactly.

I think the cubs could move castro to 3b and he'd do fine there. It might even cut down on some of his throwing errors since when he's rushed he seems to throw darts, but when he has plenty of time he can get lackadaisical. But I'd be really really pissed if the cubs traded castro for anything less than a steal.
