I've been watching on and off. Took me a second to find the thread

Winning 3 out of 4 would be huge. I was honestly hoping for a split but the intensity of this series has been playoff like and I hope the cubs use it as solid momentum.

Our hitters are really starting to get hits at critical junctions that we've been missing all year.

ETA: Quintana has been a great addition

Q has been great his last couple starts.

Too many people are pissy about folks kneeling for the anthem to care about a Cubs game

Hell of a performance by Quintana. Let’s clinch in STL.

He was simply fantastic today. And for as frustrating as the Cubs have been this year, going 6-1 against the two teams still within striking distance was strong. BIG BOY BASEBALL! I guess that's part of what was frustrating as I think we knew this is what this team is capable of.

The one lingering question coming out of it is Lester. He has been very shaky much of the year and particularly lately. Even those two game he won he struggled badly in the early innings and was honestly bailed out by some generous strike zones and fortunate balls smoked right at people.

He has earned the right to start in the post-season but does that earn him the right for a second start if he pitches like he has been much of this year?

Joe’s postseason rotation order gonna be interesting. Right now I’m going arrieta, Hendricks, quintana, Lester. Lackey gonna have to swallow his pride

Even tho Q and Prof are pitching the best right now i think we keep those two for the two home starts and have jake and Jon pitch in Washington (barring we win the division) idk tho If the stats would say that too.

I wonder if the Cubs will ask him to pitch out of the bullpen in the postseason. I know he said he wouldn't do it in the regular season.

That’s what I was referring to. I think he would. Unless he’s a bigger arse than he seems to be. I mean, it’s either that or u tell ur teammates, sorry guys, I quit. Cause his postseason roster spot might be dependent on him agreeing to it. Joe ain’t carrying 5 starters into the postseason. Especially when he has a guy like Monty that could do either if somebody got hurt

Yeah, I just put them in order of my confidence level in them right now. I know it’s more to it than that. Jake & Prof are clearly your hot hands, Quintana close behind & ???? after that. I almost have more confidence in lackey and Monty than Lester. But you gotta have faith that he’ll flip the switch come October.

I don't think there's any doubt. Lackey has out-performed Lester after the break but Lester's post-season pedigree makes it the best decision for at least the first go-round if as I hope there are more go-rounds.

I’m not sure I would even want to bring in lackey out of the pen in a close game. We all know he’s good for that solo homerun in the first.

He would be the long guy out of the pen in case someone had to leave a start early. If the starter goes 5 innings, Lackey won't see the mound in a post season game.

Big start for Lester tomorrow night in St Louis. Needs to regain some form and show he's a 1 or a 2 in the post season. I'd like our rotation with Arrieta, Lester, Hendricks and Quintana all pitching well.

Plus if he disagrees with a call from the ump, which he pretty much does any time a ball is called against him...or if his fielders don't make a play he thinks they should...he has a little hissy fit that gets him off his game. Can't have that on the big stage.

Agreed, I have very little confidence in him right now based on his last several perormances.

He has struggled mightily in his last four starts getting out the gate. He runs up the pitch count very high very early and labors so badly it's brutal to watch. If the ump doesn't give him 2 or 3 inches on the corners and the bottom of the strike zone he has no shot. That has been the reality for Lester this year.

And Tampa really exposed Lester's mental block about throwing to the bases. Most teams know but for whatever reason they won't just take off and run or bunt right to him. Tampa did all that and really exposed and frankly embarrassed him.
