I am so on board with this jersey countdown. Way better than counting up to 100 losses.

Lackey going to the DL. Patton going back down. Zastryzny and Armando Rivero coming up.

Tweets in the comments section of this. Looks like some Pena guy is the second arm, not Rivero

Zastryzny was pitching very well. Interesting moves.

I don't see anything confirming Lackey to the DL. Could these be moves for September 1 call ups?

Just keep in mind that the Cubs don't usually announce their roster moves until right before game time. However, every so often, there will be beat writers noticing certain players showing up to the clubhouse or being on a plane before the news goes official.

I guess just safely expect there to be two roster moves today. Since the Cubs are starting Montgomery in Lackey's spot, it kind of makes sense that they could retroactively DL Lackey to create room for another arm. And, they plan to piggyback Montgomery and Cahill in one game like they did this week.

The other move is likely to be Spencer Patton. That's speculation, but it's just the more likely scenario. The Cubs may want extra pitchers on the road trip.

I believe they still have to wait the 10 days for Tommy La Stella to be recalled if they need another bench bat, and he first played in AA two nights ago. She he still has over a week before he can be recalled.

Lastella got sent down what seems like almost a month ago. Surely the 10 day rule applies to when he was sent down not when he reported, right?

Either way he probably still needs more abs and I'm in no hurry to bring him back as I tend to fall more in the category of his refusal to report was a dick move.

I don't know the rule, so I'll look into it...
quote:

According to Major League Rule 11(b)(1), a player who is optioned to the Minor Leagues cannot be recalled until 10 days after he reports to the farm club
MOAR
quote:

There are three exceptions to the general rule.

First, if a team, after optioning a player, places someone else on the disabled list or bereavement list before 10 days have elapsed, the team can (with the Commissioner's approval) bring the optioned player back before that 10-day waiting period expires.

Second, if the club to which the player is optioned has its season -- including any playoffs -- conclude before the 10 days elapse, the player can come back to the big leagues at that point.

Third, if the player is traded during the 10-day period, the team that acquires him may put him on its active big-league roster right away.

La Stella is not coming up any time soon any way. They're not going to reward him for being a baby.

Looks like the moves are Felix Pena and Rob Zastryzny up, Hector Rondon and John Lackey to the DL.

That's not good...might be a little concerned about Rondon. On the other hand, this could all be precautionary and since the Cubs lead is so wide over the Cardinals, they have the luxury to do this.

They are saying that it is just precautionary.

That's exactly what Muskrat was saying. Purely precautionary. Mentioned the lead too.
