Easy decision for Stevens. Who would turn down the Celtics job? Their fans know they'll be in a rebuilding mode for the next couple of years.

As for the Celtics...young coach for a young team with little expectations up front? Still shocking.

Blows me away...I thought he would go to Duke when Coach K retired. He was a coach meant for the college game IMO.

I wonder if he called Rick Pitino? Pitino was probably like, "Sure! Go for it! They pay you a small fortune and when you get tired of the job or get fired you can get an even better college job!"

the only reason I'd say its a bad move is because the Celtics should be rebuilding for a number of years now.

What's the risk for him? If he fails, some college team will love to have him in a few years.

I don't see this as bad for him, at worst it's a huge payday, but I don't see why Boston wants him. There's no way they're keeping him around for the entire rebuild.

That's part of why it's perfect. He can continue teaching young players while having low expectations.

No veteran team contending for a championship would hire a rookie head coach from the college ranks. This is an ideal situation to step into for him. Would it be any better if it were a crappy franchise like the Kings?

More random hire, this or Kidd?

If he fails in the NBA, he can always go back to college. Worked fine for Pitino and Cal.

By the time Coach K retires, Stevens will likely be ready to leave the NBA.
