Casual football fans get excited
Football is still exciting
Boxing makes me want to take a nap. It's two Neanderthals punching the crap out of each other. There's not much to understand.

I basically said the same thing yesterday, I can't get excited about a slap fight

MMA is where it's at now.
Yeah, with every UFC card turning into shite due to fighters pulling out with injuries and 15 minute humpfests.
I'm not even a big boxing fan (didn't even watch the fight last night), but the average MMA fight has a much greater chance of being a bore fest. At least in boxing it's just two dudes throwing hands.

You ever watch a football game with a casual football fan or someone who doesn't watch much football? How silly and ignorant do they sound while you are watching the game with them?
Casual fans don't understand what they are seeing when they watch Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match.
Exactly.
It's equivalent to those fans who hate defense and want to see 70-63 scores every weekend.
With football they don't truly understand football so they despise defense and feel it is boring.
With Boxing those causal fans know nothing about the art of defense in boxing (yet chant Ali's name? lol). They think boxing is suppose to be some mauling brawl of people punching each other in the face with their arms dropped.
It's so stupid and ignorant.

Here comes the "boxing is sophisticated" crowd

True. More like Olympic style boxing....points...no KO. They expected a Rocky movie type fight because of the hype.lmao.
It's boxing....not thugs brawling blow for blow . Where do people think the term "stick and move" came from.

No one's saying boxing is sophisticated. A lot of people are just saying that watching one match that went EXACTLY as everyone expected it to go doesn't qualify someone to label the entire sport and make claims on its current state.
On Reddit, people are talking about rule changes and acting like Mayweather didn't land a punch. It's ridiculous how people watch one event, dislike the outcome, and want to start changing it to suit how they feel about it. The same thing happens with soccer. Someone has no idea what they're watching, gets bored, and decides they know a better way than people who live and breathe something.
I'm in no way a super fan of boxing or an expert, but I've seen enough fights to know that this fight played out the way it did because that's what Mayweather does. It's in no way an representation of boxing as a whole. Defensive masters almost always win in every single sport. That's just a fact.

True. They bought into the hype. One fighter is like 38 the other 36(looks older). Not paying $100 for something that'll last 45min to an hour.
ESPN also duped yall with the hype and domestic abuse talk. Floyd's been known for that..Why all of a sudden it's brought up? To get more people talking, interested

It was an exhibition and not a fight. I'm glad I didn't fork over $100 to watch it. I guess I'll go spend that at Home Depot today!

No, I'm just not an idiot.
It's funny reading hypocrisy. On one hand you guys bash Pac-12, Big10, etc for not playing defense and thinking flash (crazy scoring games) is all there is to football.
Then on the other hand you bash Mayweather for playing defense and not making wild mindless punching his boxing style.

It was an exhibition because Mayweather dominated Pacquiao so badly, he couldn't make it anything more.
I mean Mayweather made Pacquiao look extremely regular. From the first three rounds he stood toe-to-toe beating out punching him in the middle off the ring to the later rounds where he evaded and counter-punched.

Fair enough on the football reference. Fwiw, I watched the fight last night with two guys who are into boxng and they were disappointed as well. So, I guess it would be the same as "true football fans" watching a game that sucks.
Could it be also compared to a pitchers duel in baseball? At least either team could win it until late.
I guess what I didn't like is that by the 7th-9th rounds, it was essentially over. Floyd was up and Pac wasn't going to be able to catch him in points or ko.

First of all, I doubt any individual paid $100. Most (like me) paid a fraction by splitting with friends.
Secondly, the point is to make money, right? And they did that AWESOMLY last night. But I suspect the majority of casual fans that wanted to get into it and bought this fight (like me) were disappointed and won't be paying money in the future because of this fight. That means less money coming in for future events.

I'm not knowledge at all about boxing, but it's not hard to understand Floyds game isn't big hits.
This is like people watching Revis and being like say brah... Where's the bug hits?

Not sure why anyone would be disappointed, I mean May fought his fight. Pac didn't force him to change and he was able to dodge, duck, dance, hold, and land some jabs. The fight itself is 7-9 years too late, I mean Pac doesn't have the same fire/intensity as he did 7-9 years ago. He used to be a devastating fighter and a bull in a China shop. He really hasn't been that same fighter since Cotto maybe? He came in after some really uninspiring fights recently and was 3-2 over his previous 5.
I think 2007 had this fight happened it would have been more entertaining and you would have seen a more aggressive Pac and Floyd having to do a little more footwork and out think Pac. It would have been two truly different styles in the ring.
