Can you imagine waiting 3-5 years to see your NFL draft pick?

Since Major League baseball began its First-Year Player Draft in 1965, only 19 players have advanced directly to the major leagues without first playing in the minors...
Heard this on Olbermann, blew my mind.
This is like drafting Luck or Bush or Brady or Manning and saying...hey, I hope we see him in the NFL on Monday Night football maybe in 3-6 years. (the average time frame if they even make it.)
The first guy to go straight to the show...
Mike Adamson, USC
Last guy...
Xavier Nady, California
Best guy...
Dave Winfield, Minnesota

Harder to go straight from HS or College where the equipment is different/field dimensions are different, and players just are better than what they experience in college/HS

Not exactly though. You still wait three years for a high school player to play in the NFL. Some baseball players start sooner in the bigs.

If the NFL could draft HS players we would see it a lot more.

I'm not gonna do your research for you but I know this is wrong. Should have been a hint that your linked website was optimized for Windows 95.

I was not even unaware that his information was out of date but I'm giving you a thumbs up for your delivery.

I would like to have the NFL draft people as reserves, ie way the Celtics did Bird. It would keep players in school for 4 years. The NFL team would purchase the insurance etc.
I also think it would put some accountability on the players as make a stipulation that they have to maintain eligibility or suffer a penalty (lose a year playing fine)
I know never get through but be interesting to see how it would work.

I thought Leake had a start in Double A as he didn't come up until later.

So they drafted him and he made debut that season? For some reason I thought he went to Spring training and earned a spot as he was in Louisville.

It's why I have a good amount of respect for the game. To be successful, development requires patience and a lot of hard work. I don't know how guys do it. It seems to be tougher to make it in MLB than any other sport.

Yeah...
To make the show...it's like you hit the lottery. Most of the world plays baseball now...and especially Asia and South America.
Nobody plays American Football but Merica...and Merica's Hat.
Making a roster on an MLB team...must be one of the most difficult things to do in life.

I thought this would be a basketball thread. Like Rubio, Ginobili, or Saric.
