Can we now say that the Puljos deal was one of the worst ever in MLB?

Hard to believe he has regressed into a .240 hitter.

Mrs Pujols disagrees, says Card's offer was insulting.

The money is bad, but to be fair, .240 with 23 homers and 101 RBIs is pretty good for a 60 year old.

I sure hope they both enjoy more losing in Anaheim for the next 5 years.

100+ RBIs again, does he have the most seasons with 100 now?

It is astonishing that he knocked in 100 runs with a .241/.286./.386 slash line. I think at this point almost everyone realizes how worthless of an individual stat RBIs are and how amazing Mike Trout is, but if not that fact should hammer it home.

The Bonilla buyout is obviously quite comical, but you could actually argue it worked out in a way for the Mets. By clearing out Bonilla's $6 million salary for 2000 season, they were able to take on Mike Hampton's contract. Hampton was worth 4.6 WAR that year and the Mets made the WS. Also, when Hampton left left via free agency that year, the Mets got a comp pick. With that pick, they selected David Wright.

Plus it actually made some financial sense at the time if the Wilpon's financial gains had actually been legit and not part of a Ponzi scheme.

Not even close to the worst deal, he's still a solid DH. Tons of guys get contracts and barely even play

Puljos wasn't even their highest paid player in 2017. His salary was $26M. The Angels paid Josh Hamilton $26.5M.

In 2016, the Angels paid Hamilton about the same, and also were on the hook to CJ Wilson for $20M. Neither played an inning for the Angels.

At least CJ's contract ended last year & the Angels contract with Hamilton just ended.

The problem with Puljos is that he still has 4 years left on his contract, and his salary increases every year.

Angels spent all that money on Pujols, Wilson, and Hamilton. And have one playoff appearance to show for it.
