Personal foul against the defense on a TD. Scoring team gets to kick from the 50 and kicks it 20 yards out the endzone. Why dont coaches onside kick in this situation everytime?

Never understood this myself. Football coaches are inherently conservative. They would rather stick with the obvious than be blamed for trying something that is reasonable if it doesn't work.

Why give them the ball at the 40?

FSU has started moving with ease.

But starting at 40 is worse than starting at 25 for kick team and onsides aren't worth it at that time.

Better chance the ball goes out or is recovered at the 35 yard line. Only a 10 yard difference with a chance that you can actually keep the ball.

The other option, which is also better than drilling it through the end zone, is skying the ball and trying to have it land around the 5 and pinning the other team inside the 10-15

You can't take that chance especially if in less than 2 score game. You kick make them drive 75.

Which just happened.

So you are willing to give up field position and momentum to get a 10-15% chance to get the ball?

It's not worth it. You have better chance not giving up points on 75 Yds than 60 yds

Is it 10-15% more of a chance? It's one first down.

Also, you haven't refuted kicking it high and trying to pin them deep.

The point is, it's archaic and lazy to just kick it as far as you can.

not lazy you are giving no chance for a return

As for kicking it high it's going to end up around 20-25 so might as well not give chance for return and take any doubt away.

You're also giving yourself no chance to keep the ball.

You don't think any kickers can practice having the ball land at the goal line? If they can crush it 20 yards out of the end zone, they can put some hangtime on it and have it land around the 10. Also a good chance it would be fair caught.

No because you're ruining the timing of the Kickoff team because it's a different kick and timing.

I know you aren't going to be convinced and come up with alternatives to everything I post.

As I said the risk is too big at that time.
