Broncos nearly finalized trade for Joe Thomas

That would have resulted in the Broncos having 3 of the 5 first team All-Pro lineman of 2013. They already have both guards in Evan Mathis and Louis Vaquez.
The terms of the trade were agreed to but Denver was trying to finalize some compensation changes to make cap room but simply ran out of time with the 3 pm trade deadline.
They already picked up Vernon Davis for a song yesterday. I think they need a quality tight end more than a left tackle right now with the way that offense works.

So they get Vernon Davis? I'm not arguing he's better than what you have, but he's I wouldn't classify him as a "quality" TE right now. He should be better now that he's away from the black hole known as Kap.

The trade terms were agreed upon but Denver could not free up enough cap space in time. I would call that "nearly finalized."

It was close to happening. He was definitely needed.

Owen Daniels can't get separation for his life. Virgil Greene was supposed to be fast but he seems to never be open either. Davis is an upgrade from those two. He's a better route runner than Greene and faster than Daniels. He's also a good run blocker. Definitely an improvement a and it basically just cost them a 7th round draft pick.

Elway doin work.
As a Titans fan, I'd kill for someone like Elway in the front office.

He's Billy Bean with on field success basically.
And more money to spend.

Elway is clearly very good. The Titans might get Peyton Manning in that role in about 10 years.

oh really cause i read it wasnt done because they couldnt come to terms with compensation....or, you know, the one major thing that would make the trade.

I feel like you are just being argumentative here as you argue semantics.

im just saying, if you can't agree to what draft picks to send, the deal was never really close. Cause that is the man speed bump.
I havent read that they had a deal in place and they couldnt make the money fit. If you post that report I will leave it alone.

Now differing reports coming out. It appeared to be over cap space at first but now actual terms might not have been agreed to. We will probably never know the truth. I do wish the Broncos had gotten him. They just put their second team left tackle on IR after already putting their first team guy on IR this summer.

That was the update. You read the original report at the top that terms were agreed to and Denver was rushing to free up cap space.

just think about this; do you really think they engage in trade talks for Joe Thomas without knowing if they can fit him, money wise? hell to da NO

What exactly are you trying to prove here? The exact degree to which the trade almost went down?
