The idea of switching to wide receiver first came to Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller in April, when he discussed it with strength coach Mickey Marotti. In May, he brought up the possibility to coach Urban Meyer and the two began watching film of star wide receivers together. Later that month, Miller began sneaking on the practice field at night to catch balls from quarterback J.T. Barrett. Miller kept the potential switch from quarterback to receiver secret, a fallback plan in case he couldn’t return fully healthy to playing quarterback after two shoulder surgeries, the latter which caused him to miss all of last season.

Miller’s fallback plan has become a reality, as he told SI.com on Thursday night that he plans to start the 2015 season playing H-Back—a hybrid receiver position—for the Buckeyes. Miller hasn’t completely closed the door on playing quarterback, as he estimates that he’ll spend 80% of the time during training camp at receiver and 20% with the quarterbacks. But Miller said with more than two months until he’ll be completely healthy at quarterback, he’s approaching this season as primarily a wide receiver.

That offense should be filthy this year.

Not surprised by this. It's the right move for Braxton.

Ohio State essentially just added an elite playmaker to the offense. This is going to be really fun to watch.

Braxton would be a terrible WR. He could be good for some trick plays at HB though.

Will make the CFB playoff championship between AU & OSU a little tougher for Auburn. Auburn still wins by 10

Maybe he will be, but what possible evidence could you have to reach this conclusion? He's an athletic playmaker. Now we don't know how well he can play the position itself, but he already has some of the fundamental attributes.

I hope it works out for him. Hate it when a cfb player loses his job over an injury.

Really don't see how you can already say this.

Just two examples, Hines Ward and Antwan Randle El were both QBs in college. They seemed to be pretty decent WRs after their position switch.

Not surprising. He only processed half of the field his entire career as the Ohio State QB. Jones and Barrett are studs. Ohio State is really damn good.

He is faster than probably anyone on the team so it's not surprising

Miller seems kind of small for a H-back. I always thought H-backs were a combo fullback/tight end type of player. He just looks too lean for that. Plus aren't they mainly used as blockers? I know he hasn't really ever blocked in that type or role. So that would be a big adjustment. I would think WR would have been a smarter move.. That and staying at QB. Where he has the best chance of catching on at the next level..

I wonder if they'll try some double QB type plays. I'm not talking about WR/RB passes, but something like this

I am really happy about this as well as for him. It must be hard to be the Big Ten offensive player of the year twice only to step down at QB and switch positions.

He had to do it in my opinion and he is making the best of it.
