Boxing is not dead. It's just boring, stale, & lame at this point.

Who cares about a punching match, I'd rather watch an actual fight (mma).

Who cares about a free throw contest, I'd rather watch a basketball game.

A boring punching match is still more entertaining than lay and pray.

might be beneficial to go back to a 15 round fight ... zig when sports/society is trying to zag ...

it really is telling how so few people know today who the hw champion is, whereas everyone - literally, everyone - knew who it was prior to about 1990ish ...

I don't necessarily disagree, however, it may just be that lighter weight classes are more exciting... Watch a heavyweight boxing match, then watch a middle weight match, and tell me which one was more exciting. The lighter guys move more, throw more punches, and just all around look like better boxers/athletes. Just my opinion of course.

PBF is one of the most boring champions of all time, coming right after Bernard Hopkins' boring style and they can't even kill boxing. MMA and boxing will always have at least marginal popularity that will ballon when great fighters fight in their prime.

Because they are- other than soccer what non boxing sports options are there for people Mayweather's size and talent level? Whereas Ali sized guys nowadays can take a shot at Football, Baseball, Hockey and possibly Basketball and likely make similar or better money.

Full of ignorance right here. I have a tip for you, if you want to watch real fighting (not two grown men rolling around on the floor all day) stay away from the PPV boxing. If you judge boxing by boxers like Mayweather you will be absolutely bored. He isn't in a punching competition, he's in a not-getting-punched competition.

You think MMA is real fighting?

Real fighting has no rules.

I don't approve of either sport, but if we're going to have humans trying to hurt each other, anyway, why not MMA?

For my money, boxing is to MMA as soccer is to American football.
