I mean, what on earth is going on with this situation? I've read the occasional headline about not being able to come to an agreement, but aren't we past the days of first rounders holding out with the rookie salary cap? Is this an issue with Bosa, San Diego, or both?

quote:

Chargers proposed to Joey Bosa what they made clear is their best offer, source says. It was declined. Offer pulled. Two sides are nowhere.

quote:

The #Chargers put out their best offer, feeling any more missed time would mean Joey Bosa doesn’t play the full 16 games. It was rejected.

quote:

#Chargers offer to Joey Bosa included the 2nd most Year 1 cash behind only Carson Wentz. Now, if he doesn’t play 16 games, it all changes

And even more interesting, San Diego just issued a statement:

Let him sit out an entire year and renter the draft next year. He will be drafted lower than #3 and get even less.

Team just issued a statement, posted in the OP. Basically, since he's probably not going to play the full 16 games and miss so much practice and classroom time, we're going to come up with an even smaller offer

Good, thats what they should do.

Either he will cave or lose out on a ton of money.

This is after improving their original offers and offering more money this year than any other player.

He really screwed himself. I don't see the chargers backing down now.

What an idiot. Who is this guy's agent?

This dude is seriously spitting in the face of living/playing as a millionaire football player in San Diego?!

Chargers want offset money if he is cut before his contract is up and signs elsewhere, AND they want to defer large portions of the bonus over time.

Apparently Chargers insist on this but almost all other teams pick one or the other.

His agent is trying to get the Chargers to be more in line with the rest of the league.

At least that's what I understand.

Will SD get a compensatory pick if he goes unsigned?

And the chargers lose out on #3 pick capital and the 5th year option

Chargers have been in the wrong on this one

The #3 pick in the draft asking what every #3 pick has gotten under the new rookie pay scale

This is what i understood as well. Noticed they mentioned its inline with other CHARGER picks, not the league.

It has to be a Chargers thing. They always have had issues negotiating with their picks.

Right. The Chargers are taking a hard line and going against what is typical for every other top 3 pick since the last collective bargaining agreement. This hasn't been an issue before because the Chargers haven't picked this high since the new CBA. The chargers seem to apparently be the least player friendly front office in the league.

From what I can tell I don't blame Bosa for taking a stand of what seems to be principle. This affects a lot for all other players that come behind him in the future.

I would laugh my arse off if he ends up sitting out the entire year to re-enter the 2017 draft

And certainly wouldn't go as high, and will still probably ended up getting drafted by Minnesota or somewhere shitty instead of sunny San Diego
