Went to High School with JaJuan in Houma back in the 90's. Sad story. I'm a very good swimmer but I still can't understand how someone can just fall into a lake and drown. If you can't swim, you should be wearing 9 layers of floatation devices.

RIP JaJuan

Never heard it described this way before. Usually using "found the body" is plenty enough to get the point across that he's dead.

I couldn't agree more if you can't swim well why wouldn't you have life preservers out of the wazoo? that would be like walking a high wire and not wearing a harness or something

This would be like if a former LSU player was eaten by a tiger

As a boat owner, I disagree. Stupidity is dangerous. I have pulled drunks without floatation devices out of the water. If someone on my boat acts idiotic, putting themselves or others at risk, I take them in and drop them off at the marina. They aren't invited back. Ever.

This is a dumb statement. Boats are absolutely dangerous on a number of levels. Sure, safe operation mitigates many of those dangers, but there are always some you can't expect. I have been boating my entire life and I am super cautious, but you cannot ever let your guard down in a boat.

That was the first thing I thought of on Sunday night when story of him missing broke - I feel like waiting 48 hours to make the joke was an appropriate show of decorum and respect.

Really awful story though - thoughts with his friends and family

i don't understand how it's possible to not know how to stay afloat.

How did he fall in and no one see anything? Did he literally sink like a brick immediately?
