In year 1 of the College Football Playoffs, the champion of the Big 12 looks like it could possibly be left out due to not having a conference championship game. I know expansion has been talked about add nausea, but it still begs the question, if a 1 loss Big 12 Champion gets left out because of not having a championship game to compare to other 1 loss teams, does the Big 12 expand and how fast does it happen? This is a VERY real possibility as of right now. Even though the B1G only has MSU and OSU, both have a chance because of that high profile championship game. That cant sit well with the Big 12. I think the Big 12 will add BYU and Cincinnati to get to 12 teams and add a championship game. Does this happen?

NORTH:

West Virginia
Cincinnati
BYU
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State

SOUTH:

Oklahoma
Oklahoma St
Baylor
Texas
Texas Tech
TCU

WVU and BYU in same division? That's a cross country trip. I guess there's really no other way around it though.

Yea, i mean there arent really a ton of options for them, but you can see the scenario i mentioned above playing out. The only "other" options at expansion are schools like Boise St, Memphis, New Mexico, Houston and Colorado St. That isnt really moving the dial. I think BYU and Cincy are about the 2 best options available.

They're all playing each other, anyway, and it's one less game for a playoff-caliber team to take the gaspipe. I don't think it's a big deal this year.

They really should have pounced on Louisville and Cincy when they had the chance to add to WVU.

Not sure what you're talking about. TCU is in great shape to get in even with one loss.

And an undefeated Big12 will always get in

I disagree, i think this year perfectly illustrates the need for that one extra high profile game that a team like Baylor desperately needs this year. If it comes down to Baylor and lets say MSU or OSU vs a 1 loss Nebraska team in the B1G title game for that final 4th spot in the Playoffs, the winner of the B1G championship gets in over Baylor IMO. The Big12 needs the game more this year than ever!

FACT!

If the Big 12 does expand it will be Cincy (all sports) and BYU (football only)

Ohio State is significantly behind TCU right now. Over 200 points in the AP poll. That's huge.

If the AP poll mimics the committees rankings like many project. The Big Ten is fricked, not the Big 12

I think TCU losses again. The scenario im pointing out is if Baylor is the one loss team representing the Big 12, if that happens, the Big 12 is fricked, not the B1G. They talked about this for an hour last night. This is a very real possibility for the Big 12.

We play 9 conference games, which hopefully will help one of us out.

If Memphis would build a new stadium, I could see them getting a Big 12 invite, but I doubt it.

What's even more amusing is that you believe a Big Ten title game featuring a Nebraska or a Minnesota is going to help the conference

It wont and shouldnt if Baylor is representing the Big 12. If MSU or OSU plays a 1 loss Nebraska team in the B1G title game and wins, they will jump Baylor in that scenario. Thats the point of this thread. The Big 12 NEEDS that championship game to defend itself against this exact scenario. This could easily play out this year. The talked about this very scenario last night.

They play 9 conference games and it's still a much better league than the Big 10 or ACC. Problem is the Big 12 has a bunch of very good teams but no great teams to run through the conference.

And no to expansion

Whats amusing is you think i mentioned Minnesota in any of my posts. Nebraska is ranked #16 right now and if they are a 1 loss team at that point, they will be ranked in the top 10 most certainly. How could MSU or OSU beating a 1 loss, top 10 ranked Nebraska not help them jump Baylor in that scenario? Thats amusing!

It didn't help in 2011 or 2012 about getting OSU or KSU over Bama who wasn't even a division champ in 2011 (frick off with that 21-0 BS). If OSU had played WVU (assuming yall took one of CU or NEbraska's place) in a 2011 Big12 championship game Bama would not have jumped them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Big 10 only play 8 conference games, so if you play in the conference game you will have only played 9 conference games as well.
Baylor can still beat a ranked OU team and a ranked K State team, which is just as good as anything the B10 can do from this point on.

If Baylor is left out they have no one to blame but themselves for their OOC schedule, not because of a lack of CCG.

Expanding at this point would make things worse because it would dilute the conference and strength of schedule.

who is the Big 10 east champ going to play in the Championship game? Nebraska or Minnesota? Neither of those teams are very good.
