It'll never happen, but I'd love it if a team was required to go 8-4 or better. Get it down to like 16 total bowls, where each matchup is comprised of good teams. That would be outstanding IMHO.

Can't you achieve the same thing as a viewer by just ignoring the shitty bowls?

I also agree that "more football" doesn't really carry much weight when its two total dogshit 5-7 teams facing off.

I think it should be 7-5, or winning record. Exception: 7-5 team needs an opponent there are no more 7-5 trams though, the bowl can choose a 6-6 team to fill the spot.

Some of the biggest rewards of going to a bowl game is the extra practice time and momentum it can bring to a program

Yeah I'd say even the shittiest teams would love to go to a bowl game.

Just don't try to make it a huge deal or super impressive to hype the game up. Like don't give away PS4s to the players as a reward for playing in the mitekie care care bowl. Just give them free tire rotations for life

How many people actually watch the Birmingham Bowl?

ESPN is who is driving these new bowls. They own them, and playing them on a random Tuesday in the middle of December gets them a lot better rating than say playing a repeat of the World Series of Poker or a repeat 30 for 30.

Exactly. All these extra bowls exist simply to give ESPN things to broadcast in a month where there isn't a lot to show. Because teams tend to be pretty evenly matched in bowl games you get a lot of competitive games.

When we went 6-6 in '07 I really had no desire to watch Saban and co. compete against Colorado for a 7-6 finish.

Well the 2008 team begs to differ. They said the bowl prep for that game was what started the momentum that got the dynasty rolling.

Some do. If SMU goes 5-7 next year and get invited to a bowl after going 1-11 and 2-10 in back to back years, do you not think their fans would probably be excited woth the improvement?

Yeah but you're not a 19 year old kid that caught 5 TDs this year and just wants to smoke weed and play madden all day

If there are sponsors for the game and a tv station paying to televise it - who gives a shite? They're not part of the playoffs and the teams get to practice and travel.

Do you guys even free market?

If you don't like it don't watch it, really pretty simple. If ESPN can make more money off bowling tournament replays they will show that instead and get rid of the bowl. Bowl games employ a sizeable number, restaurants get a boost along with hotels - even if its just parents and schools staying. Plus the degenerate gambler in me likes more opportunities to give money away.

The last couple of bowls after all the games anybody cares about are really depressing, make me feel like a heroin addict getting by on some methadone before going cold turkey.

More football is a good thing.
So much more football that a 5-7 team goes bowling = Too much of a good thing = bad

Part of a scheme to turn bowls into participation trophies?

Should only be bowl games for teams that won championships... Whether it's division or league. Just going 6-6 and finishing 9th in the SEC shouldn't give you a bowl game.

I would expand the playoffs to 16 teams, this way if you win your conference you're in (no matter what your record is). If you did that some of the better-attended bowls could turn into first-round sites (e.g. the Belk Bowl in Charlotte).

good, there are too many of them.

Yeah, more football is awful.....

Never understood why people want less. Don't watch it if it's that bad. The alternative is some other PoS espn program.

I'd rather watch two 5-7 teams go at it than 3 more hours of repeating sportscenters

Is it too many? Probably. But when you think about it, why does it bother people that there are that many games? Literally has no negative effect on you.

Fine, and?

What does this even mean? If the question is do I want to have the option of watching a 5-7 team play a 6-6 team on some random day in mid December or not have the option at all, I'll take the option of having the game.

I don't really understand why anyone opposes it. If you oppose it, you don't watch, you win. Those who want to watch, watch, and they win. My way, everyone wins. Your way, only 1 side wins, no?

Bad extra football.
Is better than no football on a random afternoon/evening, unless you prefer to watch Judge Judy of course. If so, then by all means, keep watching that Judge Judy!!!

I want good extra football
Then don't watch the ones you don't want to watch, why is that so difficult to do?
