Big 12 Commissioner Blasts Washington, Ohio State Selections to CFB Playoff

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby would like some clarity from College Football Playoff officials on the importance of conference championship games and strength of schedule, he told ESPN on Sunday after the selection committee put 11-1 Ohio State in at No. 3 despite the Buckeyes not winning the Big Ten East Division or their conference title.
"Obviously I acknowledge the difficulty of the task, but I'm not sure what I advise my members right now, because we've been telling them that nonconference schedules matter, and one of the four has an exceedingly weak nonconference schedule," he said, referring to No. 4 Washington, which notched wins over Rutgers, Idaho and FCS Portland State. "And we've been telling them the 13th data point matters, and we added a conference championship game because of that. We've always heard that conference championships matter and division championships matter, and now it's confusing."
"I'm just looking for clarity," Bowlsby said. "We didn't have a team that was a likely participant in the playoff, and so from that standpoint it doesn't make a lot of difference to us this year, but I'd just like to know what we're supposed to advise our members. Does the 13th data point make a difference, or does it not? Does the conference championship game make a difference, or does it not? Are they only used as tiebreakers, or is it other metrics?
"In TCU's case, they fell out of the playoff. They had a great year and had a Heisman Trophy candidate at quarterback and won by 50 points on the last day of the season, but we were told the reason they didn't get in, the reason they fell, was they didn't have a 13th data point and they didn't have a championship. Now I think it's reasonable to seek clarity on that, and when the time is right, I will ask those questions."
"We've told our schools you shouldn't be surprised if you don't get in if you play a weak nonconference schedule, and then somebody with a weak nonconference schedule does get in," Bowlsby said. "It's just another case in which we need to seek clarification."

I mean he can't argue Ohio State, since Ohio State went to Oklahoma and beat his conference champ by 3 TDs

I mean I'm quoting the article
Seems he is talking about OSU too

He isn't arguing about OU getting left out though.
He is saying it's horseshite that TCU/Baylor got left out in '14 for weak OOC schedule and being co-champs w/no title game while this year Washington does not get dinged for weak OOC and Ohio State gets in even though they didn't win their conference (and weren't even co-champs or in the title game).
He has a legit point.
Also, let's be real here. We all know that if it was Indiana or Rutgers in Ohio State's place they would have been passed over and if it had been Texas/OU instead of Baylor/TCU in '14 one of them would have got in.

Does he though?
I mean 2 conference champs have 2 losses this year. In 2014 all 6 top teams had 0/1 loss, so the field was level. The committee has always said "Body of Work"
The Big 12 wasn't good in 2014, neither was the B1G. However, the B1G did beat the Big 12 champ in the cotton bowl and win the NC in 2014 too.

Yes he does. Also, what happens in the bowls afterwards means nothing.
Again, TCU and Baylor were left out b/c they aren't blue blood names. Ohio State got in this year b/c they are one of the top 10 blue blood names all time. We all know it's true. You can admit it.

He's correct in the sense that the committee pushed the talking point that conference championships matter since this whole thing started. No matter what your view is on CCGs, the committee changed their parameters for all intents and purposes if you compare to their original points. If they did like they said they would, PSU would be in, but OSU is in instead.
Whether or not you agree with that, it is concerning that the committee pulled a switch-a-roo on us.

He's talking about TCU getting dicked over because they didn't play in a conference championship game, then that not mattering this year for Ohio State. He's talking about Washington getting in with a similar OOC schedule as TCU that year.
He's talking about both.

This year OSU has THE BEST RESUME IN THE COUNTRY. They have 3 wins over top 10 teams, no one else has that with 0 or 1 loss. Just stop
In 2014 TCU and Baylor did NOT have better resumes than OSU. Just stop you haven't done any research on this. OSU's SOS was again better than Baylor and TCU. More top 15 wins including a top 10 road win and a 60 point win over a top 15 team.
