Ty Cobb
no one close.
Henderson is the clear #1
Brock, Ichiro, Raines and Rose are all good mentions.
A couple that I haven't seen mentioned: Kenny Lofton, Paul Molitor, and Craig Biggio

Ricky Henderson, although he ranks 52nd all-time in OBP.... few other names I could list but I was not alive when they played so no idea if they batted 1st or 2nd, or near the bottom of the lineup
Out of the players ahead of them, only three of them were leadoff hitters. One was Max Bishop who brought nothing to the table outside of his great OBP. He had a career batting average of .271 when the league average BA during his time was close to .300. His career slugging percentage was .366 and he stole less than 50 bases for his career. The second is Eddie Stanky who was a very similar players. Great at drawing walks but batting average was very pedestrian, had no power and didn't steal many bases. Finally, the third was Wade Boggs who actually had less than 50% of his career at bats in the leadoff spots and benefited tremendously from playing at Fenway Park for most of his career. So in terms of total package, Rickey has a better resume as a leadoff hitter than all of them by a comfortable margin.

Talking about the Billy Hamilton that scored over 100 runs 11 times in his 13 seasons. He score 150 times 4 consecutive season.
Only Rickey Henderson and Lou Brock stole more bases.
Only Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, and John McGraw have a higher lifetime on-base%

It's clearly Rickey Henderson and it's a shame the majority of posters in here can't even spell his name correctly.

Henderson for a career
Ichiro in 2001 or Vince Coleman in 85.
Ichiro in 2001 or Vince Coleman in 85.

I was never a fan of RH but he is clearly the best lead off hitter ever.

And Rickey 82 season was much better than Vince's 85 season so IDK WTF that dude was talking about.

For what Coleman did for the Cards it was amazing it wasn't just stats. Especially since it was his rookie year.
But then again you just go off stats and not understand the impact Coleman had on that lineup.
