Trump National is right around the corner, it's on the ocean. Public, you can play twilight for only $80, regular greens fees are $280 if you play a morning round.

Aug. 25th they're having a big Wine and Beer festival there too. (which is why I know anything about Trump Nat'l)

If you're shooting 100+ then you may want to dial back down the type of course you want to play.

Torrey Pines is a championship course, it'll run ya 220+ being a non-resident.

Maybe check out Meadowlark in Huntington Beach, it's inexpensive and not far from the beach. Long Beach has a muni course that's not too bad either.

ETA: golfhub is a good site to use to compare out of town courses, you can usually get a deal on tee times booking with them too.

Yeah I wasn't thinking of going to a PGA tour event course. El dorado and the "big Rec" course look decent. I check out that one in Huntington Beach. I was hoping to play something on the ocean but I'm sure those are all going to be $100 plus and farther than I want to drive

If you have time in the evening, Trump Nat'l is still your best bet. pay your $80, take your time, have a drink or two, don't even worry about finishing, just play at a nice pace and plan to lose a box of balls.

I looked up Meadowlark's rates and it's $33 M-F, which is pretty cheap for out there.

Let us know where you end up playing. Enjoy the trip.

Play Torrey Pines North course and you can play a PGA course and be much cheaper than the South Course. You will enjoy it just as much for half the price! Played both courses multiple times and enjoyed the North course more because its easier.

I think it was like $80 bucks and we walked on and walked the course. Had to get times for South course but North is relatively easy to get on from my experiences doing so.

Was going to play oak quarry but was on a little time crunch so played one of long beach's muni courses. The course is called big 18 recreational and for a city course it was great.
The course was better than any muni or brec I played in LA. Every hole had an elevation element. Elevated tees, downhill, uphill, elevated greens, one of these aspects were used in each hole.
