Best part of the Sidd Finch story.

quote:

He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd's deciding about yoga—and his future in baseball.

That was the opening line of the story.

Look at it closely.

Look at the first letter of each world, which I capitalized below.

quote:

He's A Pitcher, Part Yogi And Part Recluse. Impressively Liberated From Our Opulent Life-style, Sidd's Deciding About Yoga—and his future in baseball.

The stories about Sidd are tGOATs.

I remember running to my dad after I read the article and telling him all about it. I was beside myself about how incredible he was gonna be.

My favorite was Tiger Stadium getting purple artificial turf to be installed by Vandelay Industries.

Even though Sports Illustrated was a no-nonsense publication lending the story a significant amount of credit, the claims are so ridiculous that I have a hard time imagining someone truly falling for it.

Didn't he throw like 150+ mph? I mean, c'mon.

The best were the photos of Dykstra and Hernandez in the magazine.

That is what gave it even more credibility. SI at the time was the leader in Sports news and where you got your sports news weekly. The Sporting News had began to falter and Sport was a monthly.

I think I was like 7 at the time or something. I didn't know what was an wasn't believable. I believed anything an adult told me or that I read in print (god help kids these days who grow up reading the interwebs ).

My favorite was something about them having to move the javelin for the Olympics because he was going to throw it out of the stadium or something like that .

The story itself wasn't that great but my uncles reaction to one Tulane did some years ago was epic.

This was when Chris Scelfo was head coach and Tulane posted an article about how the school was going to break ground on a new stadium...... In Chris Scelfos back yard.... Article went on to say that the drive was getting to be a hassle for the coach and that he could spend more time doing coaching duties... (Yes I know a stadium in Scelfos back yard might be big enough lol). So anyway I tell my uncle this, and he is usually very quick and can spot this type of thing so I don't know if I caught him on an off day but he went into full meltdown mode... Was telling me this is the final straw for him being a Tulane fan.... What had Scelfo done to deserve such accommodations, went into the whole deal about parking, schools using it against us in recruiting. It got tot he point that I thought he was just messing with me, and when I realized he was being serious I couldn't hold the laughter in. I busted out laughing and there was silence on his end. He said its April 1st..... Called me a dick and hung up lol.

MLB legalizing aluminum bats

When I watched live it on the air, I was excited for the potential out of the stadium HR's but scared about possible off-the-bat missle injuries.

Then ESPN was like "Got 'em!"

I think they should figure out a way to dye the grass for certain games.

I wouldn't mind an all gold field, either.
