Wow. Travel ball isnt all that bad as those guys turned out ok!

well I would be interested in seeing how many kids they played with... then cross reference that by how many they played against, followed by how many made it to college/MLB draft....

I bet the numbers would be low as with anything when we are talking college/pro development. Football/Basketball I believe do travel ball better than baseball. For 1 they wait until the kids are older. It is exclusively high school kids who participate.

I would love to look at the Americans who have made the all-star game the last 15 years, and see how many were two sport athletes compared to travel-ball baseball only till you puke players. I would guess 70+% were two sport stars.

I've seen that team, they played a group of local kids who were all-stars. They dominated

You're right, the kid went to 8th Grade/HS, I think he's too old now, but apparently he's one of the top pitchers for his 8th Grade Team in the Catholic School League, I also have a co-worker who's son works at Sheets academy giving pitching lessons, he pitched at ULM two years ago. My buddy mentioned that Sheets is a good dude.

That Terror team is the best Louisiana travel baseball team ever assembled. Sanders went and got the best from all over the state. 4 played in the Little League World Series team that made it to finals or semifinals.

There are about 8 other organizations just like usssa across the country. We would have to look all the lsu players in the other org as well to get a true reading on who played travelball and who didn't. At a school like lsu I doubt there's any player there that didn't play some type of travelball. Also, there are plenty of tournament teams that play 70 games and a lot of these players play basketball and football as well.

Louis Coleman
Jared Mitchel
Mikie Mahtook
Leon Landry
Johnny Dishon
Sean Ochinko
Buzzy Haydel
Grant Dozar

Are all national champions that played high school QB alone. I only know that because they mentioned it. I bet there were multiple other all state football and basketball players on that team. My point is the Major League level guys were most likely the freak athletes in high school, so they dominated multiple sports, which is more impressive to any scout or coach than playing only baseball

Update: LeMahieu- All state basketball
Ranaudo- All state basketball
Schimpf- Football

So out of all out starters it appears only Nola, dean, and Gibbs didnt play multiple sports based on their bios

Im just messing But I truly believe if your kid is a great athlete playing multiple sports in high school will help him more than hurt him in terms of baseball. Now, if he really isnt that athletic than maybe playing travel ball will help get a smaller school scholarship

70 games is not a lot in 10 months of playing. I would think most of the kids on his roster pitch so there shouldn't be overuse of arms.

I watched a kid dominate a LL game this year from the mound. The parents of the team and especially the paw paw thought this kid was the second coming of Roger Clemens. Truth be told he would be a regular kid on most AAA travel teams. Only 3-4 kids on the other team could catch up with his fastball so the rest had to hope for a walk or were struck out. He really didn't have to try hard to strike out most of the kids, just put it over the plate.

Travel basketball (aau) starts at 4th grade though. And I can assure you Louisiana has travel all star tackle football for even 6u.

The key is that many of those guys played multiple sports year round, and did not play baseball year round. There are a lot of travel ball kids who play year round, and I don't think it does them any favors in terms of overall athleticism.
