#Bears are presenting a rule proposal that would give both teams a possession in overtime.

I'm for it. I know a lot of you are not.

I know a lot of you think it's apples and oranges, but to me it's like saying that in OT of a basketball game if the first team with possession hits a 3, the game is over.

The game should just end in a tie in the regular season.

More like apples to pianos

Scoring a basket in overtime is more akin to getting a first down in football in overtime than it is to a touchdown.

It's not like that at all. It takes more than one play (usually) to score a TD. If your defense can't stop the other team from scoring a TD with the game on the line, then you lose. I have no problem with that.

I like the rule as is.

The game is partially decided by a coin flip..it's stupid as hell

Both teams should get a possession no matter what

Agree with this.

If it happens in the playoffs, just play an extra 15-minute period. Whoever is leading at the end of that wins

Maybe shorten the period to something reasonable, like the NBA. 10 minute period?

Just get rid of the sudden death aspect.

Start at the 50. One team runs one play. If they don't score, it's like a turnover on downs. other team runs a play from wherever the other team ended their play. If they don't score, same thing happens for the other team. Do this until somebody scores.

One of the stupidest arguments of all time.

52% of teams that win the coin toss before the game go on to win the game

So we have to get rid of that one too

Use the college system. Except start at your own 40 and move 5 yards ahead each OT. That's what college should do too

Easy peasy

I like the theory of this, but it would take forever.

Maybe give each team 6-8plays, then switch, until someone scores. If team A starts scores on possession 1 in 4 plays, then team B gets 4 plays from the 50 to extend OT.

player safety tho...

only have overtime in the Super Bowl. tied regular season games end in ties and tied playoff games end in the higher seed advancing... gives new meaning to the term "home field advantage"

It's what I've thought they should go to since seeing it in Arena Football. Each team full possession, then sudden death if it is still tied.

Tie regular season games....whatever. I would hate it but could learn to live with it. But that playoff idea is just awful.

If your defense can't stop an offense from going on an 80 yards in a do or die situation, you don't deserve to win.

In college, I like the OT rule except the kickers are too good to start possession at the 25. Back it up to the 50.

Don't like because a 7-9 division winner could get to host a 12 win team and can advance without even winning the game.
