BBCOR bats in NCAA baseball
Posted by Jack Daniel on 1/14/14 at 7:46 am00
I am a huge college baseball fan. I have had season tickets to LSU my whole life but it has been torture at times watching games since the bat change. I know they are using new balls but no one knows how exactly that will affect things. Is anybody a fan of hat bbcor bats have done to the game?

Its pretty much a unanimous opinion outside of baseball teams from California that the new bat is ruining college baseball

I don't follow college baseball. What's the problem? Is the bat dead?

I hate them. The CWS sucks. I forget how many HR's were hit in Omaha (thinking 2-3) but the bats have ruined the game IMO.

Basically. The sweet spot was pretty much taken away. I went through the change in high school and you can definitely tell the difference between the new ones and the old ones.

Wood is hotter.

Their excuse was to reduce pitcher injury but I didn't think it was happening that much in college

The new balls won't come until 2015, so we've got one more season like the last few. I'm hoping the new balls make a big difference when they get here.

New baseballs will not be used this year. Next year we will probably have new balls with lower seams, which will allow the ball to travel farther due to less wind resistance.
However, this year expect more of the same.

This. Teams like Fullerton already played small ball so it didn't affect them much. It directly hurt teams like LSU though who generally had at least a couple sluggers on the team.
I hate them, find college baseball much more boring now, and really don't understand what was wrong with the bats from 09-10.

Hopefully the rules committee will go ahead and just adopt the minor league ball with the flat seams and livelier core. No need in having dead bats AND dead balls.

I've gotten used to the new bats and during the regular season it's not that bad. But when you play in huge parks like Hoover or Omaha it's too much.

The only thing more dead than the bats was probably the CWS ratings
re: BBCOR bats in NCAA baseballPosted by LSUnowhas2 on 1/14/14 at 8:39 am to Jack Daniel
If they were using the old bats and balls, UCLA would not have been the CWS champion. That is a fact. Hell, Ibarra alone had two balls alone against UCLA that would have been homers with the old bats and balls.

Exactly. The first change was fine. I have no idea why they went this far with the bats.

They aren't terrible except when combined with the big parks like you said. Omaha was way too big.

Well you're an idiot. The postseason as a whole had some of its best ratings ever this past season.

How about just the CWS?

Ratings increased from the year before.
