Cleary they both have Hall of Fame careers, but how does Frank get in on his first try, but Bagwell doesn't on his fourth. Why is Bags accused of PED and Frank isn't?

not sure if serious

Frank was always a big dude.
Bags bulked up a lot in his early years

Well Frank has better numbers in almost every category
Posted on 1/8/14 at 1:38 pm to Smokedawg
my only question is how in the frick did Frank manage to get 32 steals?
Posted on 1/8/14 at 1:39 pm to Weagle25
Well frank played 19 years, and the last 4 he was a DH
Bagwell played 15 and the last season he only play in 24 games.

just accept it bags isn't making it in this way... my guy is on year 5 no go. if McGriff only had 8 more hr to hit the 500 mark it'd be automatic. oh well, f baseball

162 game averages:
Frank Thomas
R - 104
HR - 36
RBI - 119
SB - 2
BB - 116
Bagwell
R - 114
HR - 34
RBI - 115
SB - 15
BB - 106
Pretty damn comparable with Bags holding a significant advantage in steals (if you're into that sort of thing). Not to mention Bagwell played 81 games a season in the Astrodome for the better part of his career.

It's a bummer that Bags isn't in. That 1994 season was, until Cabrera's recently, one of the most impressive seasons I've seen.

This is why the Hall of fame gets more watered down every year. People want to compare stats of a non-HOFer to a low end HOFer and rationalize getting more borderline guys in.
The old saying is true. If you have to ask if a guy belongs in the Hall of Fame, he doesnt. Can't anybody just be a very good player without everyone wanting him to be a Hall of famer?

And, they were born on the exact same day!
Thomas was better, though.

Those late 90s/ early 2000 Astros teams were a phrarmacuy clinic for steroids. Not saying Bagwell was a juicer but he is tainted by association

Ding ding ding. Bagwell has better ballpark adjusted numbers.

Because Bagwell went from looking like this:
to looking like this:
guy probably put on 30 to 40 lbs of muscle in a relatively short period of time.

I loved Bagwell growing up and I'll even admit that the likelihood of him doing steroids is pretty high, but that specific picture comparison is far from compelling evidence. Houston didn't go to the red logos until 2000. 1991 vs. 2000 is 10 years. A lot can change in 10 years. Not a good comparison.
Hell I accidentally gained 50 pounds in the last 10 years.

He's not that much different.
I mean,
His 95 Topps card
Its not exactly this:

The percentage of players in the hall of fame is decreasing every year

Like THIS matters...........
BTW Thomas all the way.......

Frank Thomas and Bagwell have comparable numbers. Thomas got in because he is one of a handful of guys, alongside Maddux, Glavine, Larkin, Griffey Jr., and maybe Biggio who are considered clean by the vast majority of the baseball writers.
Schilling and Raines are also considered clean but didn't get in (I'm basically counting Biggio in, as he is a lock for next year), but the reason why the vast majority of 90s players aren't getting in is simply because of PED association.

Milestones. Thomas got to 500 HRs and Bagwell didn't.
But Astro fans shouldn't be upset about players getting in because of milestones, it will be the only reason Biggio gets in.
