ATL Hawks free agency question?

I don't think we are going to match the 4 year 71 mil by the knicks for Hardaway Jr. What do you guys think they should do about Jamal Crawford, Keep him for the next 2 years or go ahead and buy him out? I feel like buy him out, because if we do tank and have a top 5 pick next year then over the next 2 years we can rebuild through the draft. We get a top 3 protected pick from the clippers for 2018, a top 14 pick from Minnesota for 2018, our own 1st round pick. And 2019 we get Cleveland's 1st round pick, and We still have Ours. Sounds like a decent chance to start a rebuild if you ask me. I'm sure I'm missing some picks also.

Gonna be really honest, yal should keep him, play him, because he's going to cost you games...not win you them.

If y'all really are trying to tank you should keep Crawford and play him a ton of minutes. He's an inefficient scorer, and plays bad defense.
He was a good player a few years ago, but he's overrated now IMO because he makes more "highlight" plays than the average player.

1) Jamal's 2nd year is only partially guaranteed (I believe only 3 mil of the 14 mil), so he's essentially an expiring contract. similar to Mike Dunleavy this past year, whom the Hawks waived a week or so ago to only have to pay a fraction of his 17-18 salary.
2) I think every effort should be made to trade Jamal before going the buyout route, unless maybe he takes a pretty substantial cut to do the buyout.

nah. the Hawks will lose just fine without him, and they need to get some minutes for DeAndre Bembry, the other first round pick from 2016 who's a 2-3. need to see what he's got.

As much as I'd like to see him stay, I don't think you match the Hardaway offer sheet. 4 years/71 million is an overpay in this summer's free agency.
See if you can trade Jamal now or at the deadline. You may be able to get a late second round pick for him from a contending team at the deadline. You don't have to clear the cap space now, so there is no reason to hastily buy him out right this instant.

The Hawks are funny, just last season I had some friends tell me the Hawks are going to make a heavy run in the playoffs with. Schroeder, Howard, Milsapp lineup. After 1 failed year they are blowing everything up.

That's the way of the NBA, hawks need to get as young as possible and go Danny Ainge style accumulating as many high picks as possible. Would love to bring Collin Sexton home either next year or the year after depending on when he comes out of college. Michael Porter Jr or Zion Williamson would also be legit to have in Atlanta
