While the majority of week 2 matchups result in blowouts, it seems that year after year, scrub teams are getting closer and closer to toppling the giants.

You've already had Moo State drop a cupcake and other teams are struggling to put these teams away. Hell, even NDSU almost pulled off a major upset. What is attributing to these closer games? Better overall talent across the country?

Might as well schedule a Wake Forest or Kansas and get some credit for the win.

I like keeping some money instate for these smaller schools but I wish every team scheduled a big Power 5 OOC game and a 2nd against a Vandy, Northwestern type then 2 rent a games.

My pet peeve is the new names for the two divisions. Back in the day it was Div I and Div II. I don't want an alphabet soup of names to increase your self esteem.

La. Tech is Div I. NSU is Div. II.

Find you a team that set a record losing streak in the last 5 years. Worked for us.

Maybe Clemson just isn't that good. That's about the only score that would really support your hypothesis this week so far.

Better evaluatiton, free fcs transfers, 5th year grad transfers, nonqualifiers.
Still shouldn't overcome a 1000% budget advantage that a "giant" like Miss State enjoys.

But then again, there are, maybe 30 power programs, if not less.

There's more parity so you have to have at least consistent QB play. The last 6 years have made me an expert on this.

Umm...what?

UGA vs Nichols State. CMU vs OK state

And then add in the games last week. Starts to add up

It was D IA and DIAA. Div 2 was even lower IIRC

Ok this one counts I guess. I think Nicholls probably isn't awful and Georgia probably got a little too much credit for beating North Carolina.

OSU has been shitty for most of the last 5 years. Their program has slipped big time. Their game today was part of a home and home deal with CMU. They beat CMU by 11 last year.

No because despite appearance of upsets or close-calls, the little guys almost never win.

Big P5 schools still win 98% of the time...and there are a lot of - a lot of games (some schools schedule 4 cupcakes a year) - in that sample size...that's why we're still talking about Appy State/Michigan...if it happened more often, we'd be talking about it.

I am too.

Nicholls is a member of the Southland Conference, which is a DI league. Nicholls is DI in all sports, including football, where they play at the FCS level.

This isn't rocket science.
