I keep hearing all the triple double or double double numbers involving guys that handle the basketball thinking these rebounding the basketball statistics should be astounding but with the way basketball is being played these days, long rebounds where it falls in your lap aren't uncommon, it's becoming a very overrated basketball statistic...thoughts?

For Westbrook they are. To be fair his turnovers are underrated though.

Curry almost averaged double figures in rebounds in a series where we are praising a guy for his triple double average whom is a much larger basketball player, just seems silly

Stats are skewed constantly. Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Rebounds are overrated on a stat sheet. The way Rodman or Russell rebounded in traffic wasn't overrated because they we were real extra possessions.

Rebounds are somewhat overrated now since everyone is shooting jumpers from 20 feet out. Rebounds pre-2000 were an much more important.

In this era of basketball we are putting up way more points. Look back 20 years ago when 90 points was considered high scoring. In today's game they are shooting more shots which leads to more missed shots, which leads to more rebound opportunities. Being that is the case, triple doubles are becoming more common place. Averaging a triple double is still quite an accomplishment, but if this trend continues it will become the norm like the double double is today.

All rebounds aren't the same. Offensive rebounds are extremely valuable. If you have a guy that can get 3 or 4 of those a game then you have a real weapon.
