Romine the catcher pussed out and dropped down low so Cabrera couldn't get a clean hit. At that point Cabrera was looking down at a helmet. He never really had a clear target.
The only opportunity Cabrera had to get a clean punch to the face would be a cheap shot at the very beginning.
