Anyone Here Been to The Masters?
Posted by Spankum on 6/1/16 at 9:56 pm00
One of my bucket list items is to go to The Masters one year. Has anyone here attended?....if so, was it a bucket list-worthy event?

I didn't see the annual thread, but I put in for my tickets this year.

It really is an awesome experience. It's so beautiful and everything is so well done.

I just put in for practice round tickets. Apparently, the deadline to apply for non-practice round tickets has expired...yesterday.

I am an idiot and didn't know it was free to register for the ticket lottery. Now I have every man, woman and child I know signing up for them.

It was one of the best things my son and I have ever done. If you get a chance, go!

Thank you...I will do that if I ever get a chance!
I've been twice, and I'd drop everything and leave right now if someone told me they'd let me on the grounds again tomorrow when I got there. It's fantastic and unlike any other sporting event. Don't pass up the opportunity to go if you ever get it.

Thank God. We didn't need any more people in the lottery. Luckily the MSB kept it pretty hush this year.

Agreed. It truly is a great experience. Everyone is so damn happy and the place is so we'll run. It's incredible. they literally whipe the bathroom stalls completely clean after every use.

I've been 5 times with players and 3 without. Getting to drive down Magnolia Lane is

I'll echo what others have said. One of the most enjoyable experiences of my life (I went in 2011 when Schwartzel won). In fact, I've never heard ANYONE say they didn't thoroughly enjoy their experience there (well, except Scott Hoch, Greg Norman, etc.)

I have been a Patron since 2006. Just got lucky to have my name pulled that year. The first three years I went to all 4 rounds with someone whether it be my wife, my dad, or a friend. Now that all my kids are old enough to go inside, we do a lot of rotating badges on half day basis. But even before I became a badge owner I was lucky to go for one round a year from 99-06 courtesy of Volvo.
Obviously, the novelty and awe of the place has wore off a bit for me. But I always take a friend who has never been to one round a year and sharing their first time experience is always special.

It's a bucket list item worth doing for anyone. For real golfers or golf fans, it's worth whatever you have to spend to do it. Below is the message I sent to my buddies when I got home this year.
The Masters was a blast. Truly something every golf fan should experience. It was better than you could imagine or I could explain. Highlights:
The property is damn near 200 acres and there wasn't a spot that didn't look like fake turf. It was all perfect, even the spots where only the patrons walk. They were growing perfect grass 3 inches from trees.
What looks like a small hill on TV is actually a mountain. The TV just does it no justice.
The food was beyond reasonably priced. We got two drinks, two chips, mini moon pies, M&Ms, two bar b q sandwiches and a pimento and cheese sandwich for $15.
Customer service was top notch. They had a guy whose sole job was to whipe the seats of the toilets between patrons, there were two additional bathroom ushers sending people to the open stalls/urinals and one sweeper who just swept up grass.
The gift shop was insane.
There are "classes" of patrons walking around and I found it very interesting. The classes were ranked as follows:
1- members who wear their green jackets.
2- people walking around with members.
3- people with shirts and hats with the ANGC logo, not the Masters logo.
4- players' families.
5- regular patrons.
Last thing, it's in the middle of town across from a shopping center with a church in it. Can't fathom the disparity within 200 yards.

Best overall sporting experience, I have been to Final Fours, BCS championship games and the Masters is the best when you factor in tradition, venue, concession prices and pure beauty, no other sporting event is even comparable. TV does not do the course justice.
I recall flying over Augusta National and even at 30,000 feet it looks gorgeous. The pristine white bunkers stood out amid the lush green fairways.
I had my name pulled in the practice round ticket lottery in 2009 on my first try. Turns out I was scheduled to attend a trade show and ended up giving my tickets to a good friend of mine. At the last minute my company scale back the crew going to the trade show because of the economy, and I ended up not going. I didn't ask for my tickets back, of course.
I've entered the lottery every year sense but haven't gotten lucky again. I'm hoping karma pays me back f i've entered the lottery every year sense but haven't gotten lucky again. I'm hoping karma pays me back sometime.
