If I was black I'd be offended by how the announcers always praise Jalen Hurts (and other athletes like him) for being calm, collected, and not cocky. It's gotten to the point where sports analysts sound shocked to come across such a rare specimen such as Hurts. Do they not think that black people can be normal functioning people? Think about it, have you ever heard broadcasters comment on an athlete's ability to keep his mouth shut as much as they do with Hurts and athletes like him?

They probably mean he's very composed for his age (not even 19), not his race.

Why does it have to be about race? I always saw it about them being kids....

You are the one with a problem.

White guilt much? It probably has more to do with him being an 18 year old true freshman in the national title game, BTW

I've heard this all season. But yeah, there is an age component as well. It just comes across the wrong way.

Pretty sure you, not anyone, just made it about race.

Honestly, him being black didn't cross my mind until I read this.

Is this where I can request a haircut? Especially when he wears it down - he looks like a girl.
And dont even get me started on Henry's hair pulled up in a bun.

Eh they stereotype everyone though.

What's the first thing you think of when you think of a visual feature of Chris Anderson? (Birdman)

It's probably all his tattoos, yet like 80% of the NBA is tatted up like that

I think it has literally nothing to do with his race and everything to do with his age/class. Just my 2 pennies

Composure isn't a secret code word, well-spoken is.

As others have said, they are (rightly) impressed with his poise as the youngest starting QB ever to find himself on this stage. They are not shocked that the older, experienced, and also black QB Watson is similarly poised.

It's funny. When you play well and don't show emotion, they call you "composed". When you suck and don't show emotion, you "lack leadership".

Quite the reach.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with him being a true freshman playing in a title game.

They said it in virtually every regular season game.

The kid is a cool customer, and he has great awareness of where the defenders are around him.

He's also really good at throwing it away when rolling out with nobody open.
