Any lawyer willing to sign a random piece of paper on air a reporter claims is sent by the party you are in a legal entanglement with should be disbarred for being incompetent.

Am I the only one who thinks this guy looks a little like Richard Leche?

Trap question?
The very first question Matt Lauer asked that attorney was did he have the credibility to make the claims that he has been making and the attorney responded by saying that he belives he does. The attorney then stated that if MLB would just waive the confidentiality clause, then he would love nothing more to explain A-Rod's position, but he can't because of that clause.
So Lauer informs him that, since he brought it up, he just received a letter from MLB saying they are willing to waive that clause if he is.
The attorney then immediately proceeds to:

BTW, if something like that threw him off his game so bad, he is a horrible attorney.
I wouldnt want him anywhere near a court room or arbitration hearing if he cant handle a surprise revelation like that.

why would Matt Lauer have such a letter from MLB?

i read that baseball sent him the draft of the letter to present to A-Rod's attorney to embarrass him on air... my thing is, does the attorney have a possible lawsuit against MLB and the Today Show for trying to ruin his reputation?

If this is true it shows incredible bad faith on the part of MLBs attorneys.

Totally disagree. They were just calling his loud mouth attorney's bluff when A Rod is attempting to sway the public in his favor by having that douche go on the Today Show for an 'exclusive'

On national TV, no less.
I mean, I'm 100% on board with the general consensus that A-Rod and his whole team are massive tools, but it's ridiculous to think he would have done anything other than exactly what he did in the situation.

I still don't really follow, to be honest.
Just because the attorney didn't sign it immediately while on TV doesn't mean he has no intentions to review it with ARod, MLB, and then sign it.
If he later refuses, sure you have a point. But right then and there, there's no attorney who would have signed it immediatley.

I understand. But he went on that show to win what I would assume is PR support for A-Rod and he handled it poorly.
He never indicated that he would review it or that he hoped it was a legit wavier. Saying something along the lines of if this letter is what MLB purports it to be, then we will be holding a press conference later on today to go into details about everything that the confidentiality clause has prevented us from saying.
He quickly reverted back to the same media talking points the A-Rod camp has been spewing lately. He was caught off guard and didnt know how to handle it. Doesnt speak very highly of him as a lawyer that is willing to go on national tv to defend his client

a simple - "fantastic! we have been wanting to talk, we cant wait to review this and bring our information forward as soon as possible" wouldve been a bit more persuasive than "ummm i uhhhh... ummmm... someday itll be clear we were right"

nor is anyone expecting him to but there certainly was an eagerness or excitement lacking on his end about the possibility of things actually coming out.

MLB just took a shite on A Rod's PR move. It's pretty funny.

Just assert attorney-client privilege and be done with it.
