I'll be in Pasadena on New Year's Day, and I'd like to see the Tournament of Roses parade.

Should I try and buy grandstand seats or just show up? Any other experiences from New Years Day in Pasadena would be appreciated.

I wish I could help. I have been to the Rose Bowl game a couple of time including last year, but never the parade. My ADD precludes me from attempting to watch a Parade.

All I know is if you park at the Rose Bowl, rememer where you parked. (it's a golf course for a parking lot)

If you're staying downtown in LA, park at Union Station and take the gold line up to pasadena. getting around Pasadena that whole day is a huge pain in the arse. I've never been to the parade, but most people were getting off at the Del Mar station for the parade, then you can hop back on, get off at Memorial Park and the walk up to the rose bowl isn't too far.

Yeah, the parade is more of gift to my gf to justify sitting on my arse watching bowl games in her apartment the rest of the day. I just don't want to wake up at the arse-crack of dawn and not be able to see the floats.

I'll be in Pasadena within walking distance of the parade route. I'm trying to find out if the parade is a camping-out-on-the-sidewalk type of event, so I'll buy tickets in advance.

The "all nighter" is the most fun, but you might miss a bit of football during the day unless you're really good at staying awake.

You'll be fine just walking up, don't worry about grandstands. And if you want a drink, get a restaurant cola cup and bourbonize it. It's not like the UF campus.

It is the camping-out-on-the-sidewalk type of event. Not really worth it if you ask me. I would think getting a grandstand ticket might be the way to go.

And by the way, don't spend the 31st in Pasadena - it sucks. Go somewhere else.

Change it to Rose Bowl since the 70's and the Ohio State posters might tell what it was like.
