should we discount the HRs he hit off of pitchers that were juicing? Seems like a level playing field to me.
Face it, Arod is easy to pile on because he's a weird guy and social douche. If he had been one of the likable players, how much outrage would there be over his PED usage?

No they get out of it if he retires and Yankees are not pushing for him to get banned because like it or not ARod still puts people in the seats even if it is to boo. They wouldn't mind if it happens but no one is campaigning MLB to ban him like that.

It is really is bullshite how the MLB is handling this. It bothers me how they started Braun's suspensions, but they did not trigger the other ones. They should all start on the same date.

From what the talking heads are saying, MLB is really after him for his attempts to obstruct their investigation.This is what they really want to hammer him with apparently. The allegations are he apparently tried to purchase the incriminating information that BioTech had on him so that he could destroy it. This brings "conduct detrimental to MLB" into the fray & that is totally separate from & handled differently than any PED use penalties. That MLB also tried to buy the information is apparently not an issue. From most accounts, what MLB has on A Rod is a lot more than what they had on Braun & Braun caved in after one meeting.

How would they justify a lifetime ban? Even if they treat his original PED use as a first offense, the second strike is supposed to be 100 games. And there's no provision for upping it to a lifetime ban for lying.
If they try to use the "best interests of baseball" clause, it's going to look comical. There have been plenty of other occasions where they could have done that and didn't.

Part of the outrage, IMO, is that the superstars really don't need to juice to be good, so it's like they're being greedy and arrogant.
The guy who has toiled away in the minors for years and who feels he needs that edge just to make it seems to get more sympathy from media and fans. The guy who got injured and doesn't want to lose his job is similar.
But A-rod? He's got more millions than a room full of us will see in our lifetimes. That, IMO, is where the outrage comes from.

basically the Yankees are pushing behind closed doors for A-Rod to get banned so they don't have to pay the idiotic salary they gave him.

So witnesses are lawyering up? That's not illegal. What part of the CBA can the commissioner use to justify a life time ban?
I hate A Rod, but the CBA was negotiated. I think the most they can do is suspend him for 50 games, unless he agrees to something more like braun did.
ETA: there is no way A Rod walks away from all that money the yankees have to pay him.

If MLB has half the evidence that it sounds like they have, Rodriguez has committed hundreds of offenses, and that would warrant a lifetime ban if MLB was leaning that direction. Also, I'm sure MLB has some type of "when we're investigating something, stay out of the fricking way and don't tamper with shite" rule which, if the reports that A-Rod is doing this are true, would warrant any type of ban MLB would seek.
Not only that, the Players' Union doesn't appear to be backing A-Rod too fervently. Looks like they may let him reap what he's sown.

Superstar athletes are put on a pedestal if not worshiped by huge numbers of fans. Those same people get really mad at those players when it turns out they were not worth the adulation.

Under his contract if he is eligible to play one game & then retires the Yankees owe him $114 million. So yes the Yankees want him banned before that can happen. And no the Yankees aren't going to make their money back on him.
