Secretariat won the Belmont by 31 lengths and shattered the track record.

Enjoy

He set records for all 3 races.

In the Derby he bided his time, came from last to first in the last stretch.

In the Preakness, he went from last to first in the first turn. An unbelievable feat.

There's a five page thread on the OT about eating horse meat.

Coincidence?

Horse races are cool, I watch and like them, but horses are not athletes. They're animals and horse racing is a spectacle.

My statement does not diminish what he did.

You arent an athlete if you dont even know you are competing.

You could stand on a balcony and take bets on which pedestrian would get through the crosswalk first, unbeknownst to them, and it would be the same level of competition. I always wonder if one random horse knew they were racing, if that would be a major advantage.

I don't view horses or, race car drivers, as athletes, but humans are animals too.

When ESPN did their Sportscentury Top 50 Athletes of the 20th Century Secretariat was ranked #35...ahead of the Big O but behind Lou Ghering.

Based on the other 2 races, the owners of the other horses knew they best they would do is show in the race. No point in running your horse that far for bronze.

Big Red scared them off and they all through Sham was going to place again.

Oh...and that horse ABSOLUTELY knew he was competing!
