That is Rick Pitino's buyout money amount

According to Pence, Louisville would be in a legal fight over $44 million it would owe Pitino as part of his buyout clause. It’s the second embarrassing controversy to touch the program since Pitino took over in 2001.

The other only lasted 15 seconds so they probably didn't count it.

I'd have to assumed that if he is dismissed over legal troubles, they would be off the hook

That will not be paid in full.

No way he walks away with 44 million.

They'll hire a fixer to plant a few bricks of cocaine in his car and call the Feds on him before they do that.

There's no way in hell he gets that if his contact has any kind of moral clause. UofL has an absolute laundry list of things they could say to prevent that buyout from happening.

What about this from the story?
quote:

Louisville staffers are accused of funneling a $100,000 bribe through an Adidas executive in order to land five-star recruit Brian Bowen. There is also a second incident involving what appears to be a Louisville coach being videotaped in a Las Vegas hotel room negotiating a payout for a high school player who will graduate in 2019, according to WDRB.com.

I have a strong feeling they won't have to pay him seeing as how an FBI investigation is bringing him down.

Surely an FBI investigation and proof he cheated would allow them to release him at no penalty.

Buyouts need to stop. A public university should never be liable for a sports contract. Just make your coach happy while employed. Look at Saban.

Good luck getting a coach to agree to any contract without a buyout. Charlie Weis type coaches nut everyday to the thought of buyouts.

I would say him banging the chick in the off-brand olive garden and hooker gate is far more embarrassing than this

On the surface, I'd agree.

But if that FBI investigation can't positively pinpoint anything on him/no specific knowledge on his part, Pitino may have a case, right?

Is there proof of Pitino specifically cheating?

Maybe there is, I just hadn't heart that he was named.

Well if cheating on you wife and backpage recruiting operations don't violate moral codes then I don't know what will

Unless he does the perp walk, Pitino will walk away from something. It's just too expensive, risky and a pain in the arse to try to make him walk away with zilch.

But it won't be close to 44 million.
