ESPN is obsessed with race.

What if I told you, that one gate in Los Angeles would have its life changed for ever.

Why do you think that is?

80s Celts vs Lakers was blue collar vs Showtime not white vs black

Not where I come from. It was racial.

It was unquestionably racial
Boston fans literally boycotted their team for being "too black" at one point and the Boston Garden was just shy of a klan rally when Showtime came to town.
On the flip side, Larry Bird had a personal security entourage every time he went to LA.

Any worthwhile documentary about the Lakers-Celtics rivalry should address the racial element, whether people like it or not.
It reminds me of the scene in "Do The Right Thing" when the group of black guys are giving a white dude crap for wearing a Larry Bird tshirt, then get exasperated when the white dude says he's not even from Boston, but from Brooklyn.
That said, the players just talking about the games has been the most compelling stuff to watch for me, so far. The racial context was an afterthought for much of it.

It didn't seem very relevant to the main topic of the documentary tonight.

Christian Laettner one had Michigan players flat out admitting to being racist.

yea, they tried as hard as they could to make that the story. Odd how none of their previews mentioned it.
Told my wife that I had no idea I was a black in 1984 since according to ESPN no whites pulled for the Lakers.

People seem to rarely think race is important on here until it comes to women taking BBC.

Race is an important issue but doesn't need to be mentioned in everything with espn. Racist/ dirty cops have no influence on why I didn't waste 5 minutes watching the NBA finals.
