We had a good run with the 2016 version. Let's start anew.

The ATP calendar starts back on January 4th, with three 250 level tournaments: Doha, Chennai, and Brisbane. The following week there are tournaments in Sydney and Auckland. Oz starts the week after that.

In current news, Rafa hired Carlos Moya on his coaching team. I like the idea of phasing Uncle Toni out a bit and bringing in some fresh ideas, but I don't know about bringing on Moya. They are really good friends as it is; I just wonder how that dynamic will play out.

My body is more than ready.

Looks like Novak and Andy are playing Doha, Cilic and Berdych are in Chennai, and the rest of the top 10 are in Brisbane. Roger, Kyrios, Monfils, and Zverev appear to be skipping all warmup tournies until AO.

If Moya had anything to do with turning a servebot into a legit top-5 player, I would think he's good to have around.

2017: The year of Jirí Veselý.

He finally breaks out of the 40-50's and becomes Cilic 2.0.

Just googled him. I never realized he was 6'3".

I wonder if that's the chick Moya cheated on Pennetta with. Solid upgrade, although I'm sure Pennetta was a cat in the sack.

Rafa says "I am practicing for three hours and a half daily, I'm feeling well but I'm not ready to play singles yet."

Solid tour pro who I think won the US Open in 2015. Not the hottest woman ever, but she oozed spicy Italian.

I always thought she had a few screws loose, so it made sense she married fognini.

I'll go with Karen Khachanov as my breakout player, although he went from 152 to 53 in the rankings this year and may have an adjustment period before moving up further.

Petra Kvitova injured by knife-wielding attacker in home invasion. Left hand apparently severly injured, haven't seen specific details regarding nature of the injury yet.

Sounds like she may be done unfortunately, apparently suffered multiple torn ligaments and tendons, 4 of her fingers are in bad shape.

Unlucky that it was her left hand and she's a lefty.

quote:

The encounter was vicious; Kvitova’s agents confirmed an account of the struggle, first reported by the BBC, in which an assailant entered her apartment to rob it under the guise of checking a utility meter, not initially recognizing her identity. When he did, a struggle in a bathroom led to a knife against Kvitova’s throat. She was able to fight free and escape, but not before sustaining deep lacerations to the four fingers of her left hand, which severely cut and tore ligaments.

Some interesting props/future on 5Dimes for 2017. I don't play these, as I don't like having my money tied up for a whole year. But, if I did, I would look at Querrey +800 to be the top American, and Raonic +600 to win a major. Ace Leader should be a good race with Ivo, Isner, Milos.

No need to post these and clutter the thread. Anyone who would bet these probably has access already. If not, I can answer any questions.

Wow. Saw she had a big announcement coming. I figured she was pregnant. Never forget.

I don't like SQ as top yank, but Raonic +600 seems interesting.

The way I worded that could be misleading. It was +600 to win exactly one major, so him winning two would make the bet a loser.

Donaldson replay on TC now. He gave Nishikori a hell of a battle. It's starting to look like he may have a higher ceiling than Tiafoe, Fritz, etc.
