CG shutout tonight with 3H, 1BB, 13K.

Jake Arrieta is the master of weak contact, Max Scherzer just struck out 20, Noah Syndergaard looks like the type of pitcher you would create on a video game, and Chris Sale is flat-out awesome, but it still seems like Kershaw is on another level. Much like peak-Bonds, I never thought we would see anything like peak-Pedro anytime soon, and I'm not saying Kershaw is quite there yet, but I don't think it is an unreasonable conversation at this point. Unreal numbers he is putting up.

I think Kershaw is the best pitcher alive, but I certainly wouldn't want to be the guy arguing against Arrieta's past 30 or so starts.

I don't think he has been quite as bad as the narrative paints, but he has undoubtedly been worse in the postseason than regular. Still if I had a must win, high stakes game, he would be my first pick to pitch it.

That's the crazy thing. Kershaw just turned 28. He still will probably be dominant for another 5 years

Bumgarner's 2014 postseason was one of the best ever, but if I had to pick one pitcher to start a must win game tomorrow, I'd pick Kershaw over him in a heartbeat.

Can't argue against him. Which makes his record in October really bizarre.

Can we all just laugh at how he has an ERA of 1.74 and his fip is still lower

I never thought I'd see more pitching dominance in this era than Pedro from 1997 to 2003 or so, but Kershaw from 2011 until now is doing just that. His 2014 season isn't believable on paper, it simply looks fake.

K/BB are getting so insane that I am starting to wonder if they are still as good of an in-season indicator as they were even just a few years ago.

K/BB ratios don't seem to be getting too crazy as a whole. There are just some god like strikeout pitchers emerging but at the surface, the stat doesn't seem to be getting too out of whack

Jake Arrieta is 20-1 with a 0.85 ERA and two no hitters since June 2015. Arguably the greatest run in MLB history

Huh, I thought the ratios were a little crazier (even outside of Kershaw).

2016 K/BB leaders:
1. Kershaw 21.33
2. Colon 8.25
3. Nolasco 6.80 (who saw this coming)

I do like K%-BB% a lot more than K/BB because K/BB inflates guys like Colon and Phil Hughes that have such a low denominator. By either measure, Kershaw is absolutely sick though.

yea, arrieta has been better in the more short term. as in the last calendar year.

kershaw over the last 4-5 seasons tho has been unreal. and duration is obviously worth more to a team.

but i do agree that arrieta's last 25 or so starts is almost like something i've never seen
