Teams in action went 3-2 overall last night.

Louisiana Tech won easily against FAU 95-69. The Bulldogs have now won five straight and improve to 11-3 in CUSA play.

Nicholls also got a win over Central Arkansas 96-89. The Colonels pulled this one out in OT and snapped a three game losing streak. They improve to 5-8 in conference play.

McNeese lost at home to Abilene Christian 78-82. Tough loss for the Cowboys as they have now lost four in a row and drop to 4-10 in league play.

And Southeastern went to Northwestern St and got a win 73-66. The Demons have now lost six straight and are currently 3-10 in league play while the Lions win gets them back to .500 in Southland play at 7-7.

Standings and RPIs are updated in the OP.

re: 2016-17 Louisiana Universities & Colleges MBB Overview and General Discussion
No teams are in action tonight but everyone plays this weekend except for McNeese.

LSU (1-12) travels to take on Alabama (8-5). Tigers are currently riding a twelve game losing streak and look to find some way to get a win.

Tulane (1-12) welcomes in USF (1-13). Tulane's only conference win this year, and last game they've won, came against USF about a month ago in a game the Green Wave won 82-67. Tulane has a good chance to pick up their second conference win and snap their current nine game losing streak.

Louisiana Tech (11-3) stays at home to face FIU (2-11). The Bulldogs have won five in a row and on paper seem to have a very good chance making that six in a row. They have a healthy lead over the third place teams in CUSA and try to keep pace with MTSU.

In an in state Sun Belt showdown, ULL (5-8) travels north to take on ULM (1-12) in Fant Ewing. The Warhawks look for revenge as the Cajuns took the first match up 69-60 in Lafayette. The Cajuns try to get a streak going having won their last game while ULM looks to snap their current four game losing streak.

UNO (10-3) welcomes Central Arkansas (7-7) to Lakefront Arena. The Privateers have won three in a row and look to remain on top of the Southland standings.

Southeastern (7-7) takes on Stephen F. Austin (9-4) in Hammond. Southeastern tries to build on their win last night and make it two in a row.

In another in state match up, Northwestern St (3-10) travels to Thibodaux to face Nicholls (5-8). This is a rematch of a game from January that Northwestern St won 86-81. The Demons look for a win as they are currently riding a six game losing streak. The Colonels look to make it two wins a row after getting a win last night.

Southern (8-5) face off against Alabama A&M (1-11) in Baton Rouge. The Jags look to build off their win last time out and remain in third place in the SWAC.

Grambling (6-7) heads east to take on Jackson St (7-6). The Tigers won their last game and look to get a streak going.

I guess our two legit shots are

Louisiana Lafayette and Louisiana Tech

I would give Lafayette a much higher chance - I reaffirmed on the CUSA web page that the MBB tourney is once again at UAB. LaTech wil have to pull off a small miracle to run 3 in a row there - but it appears their young players may can pull it off.

I don't see any of the following schools have any real shot:

Louisiana - Monroe
LSU
Grambling
Northwestern State
Tulane
Nichols
Southern

I think UNO, McNeese and southeastern could surprise...maybe put Southern in there.

I think the only shots are LA Tech & UNO. I go to every ULL game and don't see them winning 4 in a row although they do usually play better at Lakefront in the conference tournament for some reason.

Not sure why people would doubt Tech as they are clearly the second best team in CUSA. I think UNO has a good shot and the only other school in Southland from Louisiana would maybe be Southeastern. And I don't know enough about the SWAC, but maybe Southern could make a run.

re: 2016-17 Louisiana Universities & Colleges MBB Overview and General Discussion
Not a bad weekend as teams in the OP combined to go 7-4 overall.

LSU lost at Alabama 72-90. This is now the Tigers thirteenth straight loss and drops LSU to 1-13 in SEC play.

Tulane picked up a big win as they defeated USF 94-71. The win snaps a nine game losing streak for Tulane and improves their record to 2-12 in AAC play.

Louisiana Tech won their sixth straight game as they defeated FIU 77-61. This was the Bulldogs 20th win of the season and they are now 12-3 in CUSA play.

ULL defeated ULM 85-84 in a thriller at Fant Ewing. Cajuns got the win on a half court shot at the buzzer. The win moves the Cajuns to 6-8 in Sun Belt play while the loss drops the Warhawks to 1-13 in league play.

UNO picked a win over Central Arkansas 84-61. The Privateers have now won four in a row and remain in first place in the Southland at 11-4.

Southeastern lost at home to Stephen F. Austin 52-60. The Lions drop below .500 in Southland play at 7-8.

Northwestern St got a win in Thibodaux beating Nicholls 80-78. The Demons snapped a six game losing streak to improve to 4-10 in conference while the Colonels loss drops them to 5-9.

Southern defeated Alabama A&M 77-64. The Jags have now won two in a row and are 9-5 in SWAC play.

Grambling also won their second game in a row beating Jackson State in OT 62-59. The win gets the Tigers back to .500 in SWAC play at 7-7.

Standings and RPIs have been updated in the OP.

Only one team was in action last night and that was Southern. The Jags defeated Alabama State 79-73. This is Southern's third straight win and improves their record to 10-5 in SWAC play.

Tonight there are two teams in action.

LSU (1-13) hosts Auburn (5-9). These two teams played last month in Auburn and LSU lost 74-78. We'll see if they can snap their current 13 game losing streak and get a win tonight.

Tulane (2-12) takes on ECU (4-10) in New Orleans. These two teams played earlier this month in a game ECU won 74-65. Tulane tries to get their second consecutive win after getting a win their last time out.

State teams went 0-2 last night.

LSU lost to Auburn 75-98. The Tigers have now tied a school record with 14 consecutive losses. The loss drops LSU to 1-14 in SEC play.

Tulane lost to ECU in a close one 73-76. Tulane wasn't able to get their second consecutive win and now stand 2-13 in AAC play.

Tonight there are two more in state school in action.

In Hammond we have Southeastern (7-8) taking on Central Arkansas (7-8). The Lions look for revenge as UCA took the first meeting 68-66.

And in Natchitoches we have Northwestern St (4-10) hosting Lamar (7-7). Lamar won the first match up of the series easily so the Demons are looking for revenge.

In state teams went 1-1 last night.

Southeastern beat Central Arkansas 87-70. The win gets the Lions back to .500 in Southland play at 8-8.

Northwestern St lost to Lamar 68-88. The loss drops the Demons to 4-11 in conference play.

Tonight there are four games involving teams in the OP.

Louisiana Tech (12-3) heads to Denton to face North Texas (2-12). The Bulldogs have won six in a row coming into tonight's game and look to make it seven straight.

UNO (11-3) welcomes Stephen F. Austin (10-4) to Lakefront for a HUGE match up. These are the top two teams in the Southland right now and a win would give the Privateers a two game advantage with only three games remaining. UNO comes into this game on a four game winning streak.

McNeese (4-10) hosts Houston Baptist (8-6). The Cowboys could use a win as they come into the game riding a four game losing streak.

Nicholls (5-9) travel to take on Incarnate Word (6-9). The Southland website is showing this game as already played last night but neither schools website is showing that, so feel free to correct me if this game has already been played.

I don't have really anything to add, but I enjoy reading this. Thanks for keeping up with it all season. This is more information on in-state schools than the Advocate has.

No games for in state schools tonight but everyone is in action tomorrow.

LSU (1-14) travels east to face Georgia (7-8). LSU has lost fourteen consecutive games and has another tough challenge this weekend.

Tulane (2-13) heads to Philadelphia to face Temple (5-11). Tulane tries to get revenge as they lost to Temple earlier this season 71-79.

Louisiana Tech (13-3) is also on the road taking on Rice (9-6). The Bulldogs look to continue their good play as they go for their eighth straight win.

ULL (6-8) heads to the east coast to face Coastal Carolina (9-6). The Cajuns look to build some momentum as they have won their last two games.

ULM (1-13) will also be out east as they face Appalachian State (3-12). The Warhawks look to break out of a five game losing streak with a win tomorrow.

UNO (12-3) heads to Natchitoches to face Northwestern St (4-11). The Privateers look to continue their good play as they go for their sixth straight win. The Demons look to pull the upset over the first place team in the Southland.

Southeastern (8-8) heads to Thibodaux to face Nicholls (6-9) in another in state match up. Southeastern looks to get above .500 in league play while Nicholls tries to string together wins after getting a victory last night.

McNeese (4-11) heads west to take on Texas A&M - Corpus Christi (10-5). The Cowboys could use a win as they are currently in a five game losing streak.

Southern (10-5) hosts Alcorn State (12-3) in a big SWAC match up. Alcorn State is currently second in the SWAC and this game gives the Jags an opportunity to make up ground on a team ahead of them.

Grambling (7-7) heads north to face Arkansas - Pine Bluff (6-9). Grambling looks to win their third straight game and get above .500 in conference play.

This thread is so awesome - too bad the schools all suck.

Are we down to hoping that UNO, LaTech and one of the SWAC schools can win their respective conference tournament? I had UL-L as having the potential to win but that is starting to look less likely.

I think UNO has a really good chance to win the Southland although A&M-CC has played really well lately. They've won 8 in a row.

Tech is just rolling right now, but they've played a bunch of the bottom teams in CUSA lately. I still think they have a decent shot. MTSU will be tough to beat though.

I'm interested to see how Southern does against Alcorn tomorrow. I think they have a shot as well.

But yeah, I think those are basically the only schools with a real shot to make the NCAA tournament.

both Tulane and LSU suck tremendously. Honestly I wish they still played each other, don't think they have since 2008.
