dumb

or universalize pitchers batting for themselves. I don't care either way, but I do want both leagues to play under the same rules.

6. NBA: No More Advancing The Ball To Half-Court After A Timeout

genius. this is one of the dumbest things in sports. a time out shouldn't give you an advantage like that, especially late in the game. it eliminates the full court press.

dumb.

12. Soccer: Have A Penalty Box Instead Of Yellow and Red Cards

dumb. yellow/red cards are probably my favorite way of calling penalties in sports.

NFL- make a safety 5 points.. One of the most difficult things to do in football and you only get 2 points?

If you have a good returner, you're getting the ball back past midfield. It's already basically 5 points without great effort. That would make it as valuable as a touchdown.

3. NFL: Make Pass Interference A 15-Yard Penalty

I understand what they want to happen, but no.
The only way it would work is if there was a separate penalty for intentionally pulling a guy down, but that would be a judgement call and lead to a giant shite show

If I remember correctly, it came from a time when baseball was more of a gentlemen's sport, so to speak. It wasn't considered good enough that the batter swung at a terrible pitch to gain the out. You had to earn it by making a good play, by catching it cleanly. If not, you had to either tag him or force out at first.

I always figured it was to keep the pitcher from throwing absolutely junk pitches with no one on base. If there is no penalty for it passing the catcher he could throw it in the dirt four feet off the plate without fear of any downside.

I think the best best for PI in the NFL is to do like the old facemask calls: make the obvious, "I got beat, so I'm going to pull the WR down" PI a spot of the foul call, and make the incidental, but clearly PI call a 15 yarder. I know it is still a really objective call, but it seems like the most fair way to do it.

NBA: Implement the advantage call like they have in soccer.

Why would a pitcher do this?

0-2 count, throw some kind of slider or curve that just breaks way out of the zone and is impossible to hit. If he swings he's out, if not it's just 1-2

Wow, this is the most reasonable explanation I've ever heard for that rule. Now I don't think it's that bad.

Yes, make it like icing. No penalty, but you can't change players.

I would consent to this, though I do like the idea of a delay of game option to be called the way the rulebook is written: for intentionally flipping it over the glass. I'm saying if a d-man isn't even trying to make a hockey play and flips it over the glass because it's easier than icing, then yeah, delay of game penalty. This would be exceedingly rare.

My guess is that catching the 3rd strike completes the play and the out. Its like having the throw beat the runner to first , but the 1b doesn't have to catch the throw....the catch just completes the play. That's my best shot.

That's what I'm thinking too. Whatever the reason, I think it's one of the dumbest rules/practices in all of sports.

I say get rid of the DH. But if you're going to have it, have it in both leagues.

I'm not sure of the origin but a drop third strike makes the fielding side "complete" a strikeout. The first and second strikes need not be caught (unless a runner is on base) and so if the third cannot be caught, then that fielding team should not be warranted an out via strikeout. It really makes it become more than just a really good pitcher and a terrible catcher and makes them earn that out.

1. No
2. Yes it's absolutely insane that there is a completely different position in different leagues
3. Not a huge fan of that.
4. No idea
5. I am a fan of an playoff but I am excited to see people bitch about how arbitrary 8 vs 9 selection is. Hell 6 vs9 or 4 vs 9 could be completely dumbfounding.
6. Yes
7. Yes
8. No. The coin flp is perfectly fair, and you shouldn't just give the home team that big of an advantage.
