Where are you going to retire? Is Louisiana on your list?

Louisiana
1. High Taxes
2. One of the BLM nation within nation states(that will destroy our economy!)
3. One of the top states with government dependent populace
I could go on but for the first time in my life retiring elsewhere is a serious consideration.

I grew up in Louisiana and still have most of my family there, but certainly not planning on moving back for retirement. Taxes, heat, plenty of undesirables. Probably stick to just traveling there 1-2 weekends a year

my goal (or dream) would to have a summer house on Whidbey Island, WA
I'm sure I will live wherever my kids/grandkids are

I want to retire to north San Diego County or Santa Barbara

If I am fortunate to retire, it will be in a state with no income tax, if those still exist then.

I'd like to do what my grandparents did for about 20+ years--be snowbirds. Place in Texas for the winter and a lakehouse in central MN for the winter. Of course it helped they had children near both places. It was amazing to go up to visit in MN in August and it felt like mid-fall here. Walk out in the morning and inhale the low sixty degree morning air.
When they got to be in their early 80's they sold the MN house and stayed permanently in the Texas house.

This sounds nice

I've thought about the snowbird concept but Texas is still too cold in the winter time.
Getting a small house or condo in Boca Raton and then spending summer up north would be nice though

my neighbors do this with their house here (LA) and farmhouse in Wisconsin
they say when it get below 32 up there, they head south, and when it get above 85 here, they head north

I'm going to hopefully be in a similar situation

Only place worth retiring in LA, in my opinion, would be Natchitoches. The rest, no thanks.

I should have explained my statement. THE BLM movement and New Black Panther leader's goal is to move all African Americans to 5 states- take over the economy and politics of the states and thus control the land and economy- his words.
Nation among nations
Regimented army
From strictly an economic position- these states would become states of socialism.
You really need to reed this guys mindset. As a retiree I could not afford to live in that kind of state anymore than I could afford to live in California

Curious, how would one manage two different residences if he had no family near either location? Are there 'house watching' services for when you're away?

friendly neighbors?
we watch our neighbors house for them while they are gone May through October (I water their flower beds, clean up any large sticks that fall, etc), the pay for a yard guy to mow and weed eat and whatnot
they generally bring us back a bunch of fresh cherries and apples from a local orchard in Wisconsin

I'm moving to my camp in Cocodrie when I retire, and living the rest of my years there. If it is still around anyway.
