One thing I would *not* do is play more slots.

It's not a habit of mine, I assure you. We were at the Beau Rivage for a work get-together and I put $20 in a machine and hit the "Grand" progressive jackpot on a $3 bet. I didn't even know what I had won.

Depending on the age of the house and when you plan on moving, some home improvements to improve the value. I've been in mine for almost 10 years, but I refinanced 5 years ago. I wouldn't bother paying down principal on the mortgage or the truck note. Update a kitchen/bathroom and you get to enjoy it and it is a bonus when you go to sell.

Definitely pay attention to the tax implication. If you can get win/loss statements from other casinos or come up with some other proof of legal gambling losses to counteract the winnings it would be very beneficial. It may be worth your while to go to a horse track and creatively lose your arse off. Collect all of "your" losing tickets and use them as back up for your write off.

I let them deduct the state taxes out of it and they told me I will claim it as income when I do my federal taxes at the beginning of next year. I really don't think it would add so much to my income that I would need to set aside half? I'm not much of a gambler and it was total crazy luck how it happened.

I appreciate all of the responses.

Let's assume at least 20% minimum needs to held for federal taxes

You can look up your rate on IRS.gov

Careful. I saw an old 80+ guy get locked up for a horse racing ticket scheme.

He had one foot in the grave, but they still sent him off to Federal pound you in the arse prison.
