You don't say, couldn't tell otherwise

You don't have to bash people that like to have extra features on their vehicle. My truck has heated seats and now that I have them I ain't giving them up.

I am car shopping and not many nice SUV's or trucks for under 45k

You're right. I'm looking at a Ford F-150 Lariat, 4 x 2 with many bells and whistles options and price is just north of $45K.

Truly amazed at what the price of trucks go for these days with the options that I am looking for.

It's nice to have nice things. I work with people who save nothing and retire with nothing but their pictures and memories...as well as people who save everything and die before retirement. The kids/grandkids end up buying all the shite their parents did without within a year.

A happy medium is usually advisable.

Now if you can budget for this, great, but I suspect these "niceties" are not limited to the car you drive. It would be very interesting if each post also included the poster's gross income, mortgage/rent payment, and % saved monthly for retirement. This is none of our business, of course, but it would put these car payment numbers into perspective. Some might be outrageous, but some might also be very reasonable.

My payment is $968, I gross about 12k a month. I'm not going into anymore detail than that

Amen to that, mine is $760 at 2.24% sure I could drive a shitbox and pocket the extra cash, but did enough of that when I was younger and didn't have a decent income.

Everyone gets hung up on the payment, its the depreciation that actually matters.

Word.

So last year, er 13 months ago, I traded in my wife's saturn that she had for 5 years and didn't get dick for it. Got her a used 2012 4Runner with 16K miles on it. Paid $28.5K

We traded it in on the Sienna and got $27K for it with 25K miles on it.

I guess I'll play.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe I got used last year. First car I ever bought for myself at 29. Drove my HS car since 2002.

Payment is $301.01 a month @ 2.84% for 60 months.

In 4 years we'll get my wife a car. I'll finance it. I don't believe in paying cash with rates this low.

Yeah I look at it this way. I save monthly. Max out Roth in addition to investing and even a nice whole life policy(shut up its a good policy and grows). We have our emergency funds, etc.

You only live once, what good is the money if you cannot enjoy if every once in a while? Now I hated spending $40k on a new car for the wife but she had a 2007 civic for almost 10 years, and I got a new Tacoma a few years ago that's almost paid off and will keep that for a long time. It was time she enjoyed a nice brand new SUV.

The new car is still bugging me but I know I worked a deal and we are fine financially.
