How do you get your foot in the job for these markets if they're supposedly "always hiring"?

As a mid-20s well-educated person it seems idiotic not to atleast throw my hat in the ring and see if I could do it. If not I just go back to what I was doing before. If I can make it, however, then I've doubled my salary.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing these places are always hiring but whenever I ask for clarification on things I don't really get responses.

I am with you on I would think everyone would be on these jobs?

I know plenty of guys in the construction materials/ equipment industry making well over 100k. I also know plenty guys in the same industry struggling to make 85k. When the west coast was booming pre 2007 we had guys making 300 and 400k working for a company I used to work for.

It doesn't matter what you sell if you are the best. I'm working on a project at a distributor where the top guys are making over 500k selling cardboard boxes, labels andJan/San/office supplies.

Agreed..but upward mobility(not to be cliche) can often be capped, although I am technically not capped although I have a base+comm.

It's time for the next thing, just wondering what y'all thought

I think the biggest thing in finding a "best" sales job is finding a company that has an elite product(s). Cars, advertising, medical supplies, materials, etc. can all be lucrative if you're with a reputable company that has clout in its space.

Yep. I worked in timeshare for a while and the best were making $500k and some making more. If you were really good, you'd make $150-200k, which I did. Sales is where you can make the most money w/o a degree if you're good. Although I did get a BFA for film/television , but that is still a valuable tool for me. Sales is not for the faint of heart though if you're on 100% commission which I have been for the last 10+ years in 2 different sales professions. But now I'm 1099, make my own schedule, and am making the most $ I ever have. I love it.

I would add, as I am in sales, is that you can find companies that pay a nice salary with a bonus/goal payout.

Less stress are more customer problem solving.

Now this might not be anyone's end result or goal, but it gets your feet wet into the world of sales with much less risk.

It's why I said I "worked" as in the past. It works well for many people but not for all. Problem is the pressure that you need to hit goals so you need to sell everybody.

That can really be said about any sales job. If you're the type of person who doesn't thrive in this scenario you should probably avoid sales altogether.

In the top teir sales jobs even if you aren't given serious pressure from your employer, your coworkers should be applying a lot of pressure to stay at the top of the sales rankings. That's not even considering pressure from competitors.

You missed the point, it was specific to a certain industry. I didn't want to hard sell people a product they couldn't use. It was not a question of thriving, I had done that for years. I need to sleep well at night. Now I make better money with a better product, and it's a win win for everyone.
