Owners would get a $500 Visa debit card and a $500 voucher for oil changes, according to AP

Beleaguered Volkswagen is reportedly planning to offer $1,000 gift cards and vouchers to owners of small diesel cars, as the German auto company aims to win back the trust of drivers. The offers, reported by the Associated Press, would be a gesture of goodwill to owners with diesel engines that have been caught up in an emissions cheating scandal that surfaced in September.

The AP story came a day after The Wall Street Journal reported that sales incentives would be a way that Volkswagen would aim to win back the trust of customers and dealers, a move that a Volkswagen spokesman confirmed, though no details were confirmed. It is being reported that owners would get a $500 Visa debit card and a $500 voucher for oil changes, services or merchandise from dealers.

I was kind of excited when I saw that but the VW dealership is so bad here I don't trust them to even change oil.

Well, from what I can tell there's no waiver of class-action rights or obligation to bring it in to be serviced. This is purely a PR stunt, but you might as well take advantage.

My wife asked about this. I asked her to confirm the "no waiver" aspect of it as well. The $500 will get me through a few scheduled maintnances.

If there's no waiver I'll be the first one in line

LINK

Even the class-action sharks have given it their tentative blessing, so go nuts. Just make sure to read whatever they make you sign at the dealership to redeem it.

Is this for real?

No waiver? Why haven't I been informed by Volkswagen?

Yeah the service center in Jackson is pretty bad. I've been doing all my maintenance on my tdi because of it and how much they charge.
