About to open a personal investment account. Mostly to buy shares of XOM, MAIN and FKINX.

Should I go with Vanguard or Ameritrade?

Thanks.

I'm a big fan of TD Ameritrade. Very easy to follow, nice graphics, easy to understand and get around for beginners.

Btw it's nice to see a fellow MAIN investor. Great long term stock. Very oversold now. I'm expecting my monthly dividend today or tomorrow from them. Just roll it over into new shares, baby.

I have XOM as well.

I am leaning to Ameritrade but for some reason everyone toots Vanguard around here and was hoping someone could give me a good persuasion.

MAIN has been on my radar for awhile but just havent had the funds to get in on it. Yes it does look oversold and seems to be near a 52 week high but the dividends are great.

DRIP is the only way to go.

Have you checked the commission fees? What does it tell you?

FKINX

Why? That fund got hammered in 2008/2009, plus you pay a load and relatively high expense ratio. Maybe you should open the account at Vanguard and use a combo of VEIPX +(VWEHX or BCOIX) to replace FKINX. No loads, significantly lower expense ratios, less risk. I am being a voice of reason here, there is nothing magic about FKINX and most of the junk bonds it owns are more risky than what VWEHX. Then perhaps one would ask themselves if now is a good time to invest new money in junk bonds. You are on your own with MAIN.

I cannot think of any reason not to use Vanguard.
