My old man had his credit card info stolen. There were done charged that were successfully disputed. However, the bank put a freeze on his card so he can't use it.

He wants to continue using it. Does he ask for a new card or request to unfreeze the card?

I would definitely ask for a new card number in this scenario.

Doesn't change anything. In fact, the bank should have automatically issued a new card once the fraudulent charges were discovered.

He should make sure they issue him a new one.

I know that with Capital One, if you go into a branch, they'll whack the compromised card number instantly and then activate one of those temporary cards that you get when you first open an account, so you're never without a working card. About a week later, you get the new permanent card in the mail.

The only inconvenience is having to go to the branch. And the identity theft, I guess.

EDIT: This is my experience with compromised debit cards. Credit cards probably would have to be handled through the subsidiary that services those cards, not the actual brick and mortar branch.
