I remember not too long ago that the TMS was all the rage... 8 Billon barrel projections and all that jazz. I saw a flurry of activity with some early high output success, but production issues soon claimed many a victim - folded up their tents and went home.

Where are we today? Are O&G companies re-thinking the TMS as a potential play? Have they figured out the correct recipe?

It didn't work at $100 oil.

If my memory is right, I think I remember reading that it wouldn't work at $150. The layer is too deep to be feasible. I doubt that we will see it drilled for commercial output any time in the next decade.

I would bet there have been no new technologies brought to the area over the past couple years, whereas in other basins they're drilling the same economics at oil ~50% of what it was. At some point in the next decade I could see someone trying to reinvigorate the area with new, more efficient drilling techniques (similar to what's happening in NE TX/NW LA right now) to bring that $100-$150 bogie down significantly. Won't happen any time soon though. Pure speculation/wishful thinking.

I see what your saying but there is so much oil that is available and not being drilled due to pricing. If there is no need for that technology to arise, I don't foresee anyone spending time/money on it. The TMS is a DEEP play, much deeper than anything in NE TX/NW LA.

I agree that it would be a really big hit for the economy throughout those areas shaded if they could figure out a cheap way to get there, but I wouldn't count on it anytime soon.

I don't feel strongly about it, just opening up that side of the argument. Wishful thinking.

IMHO it's done for a while. Except Oklahoma now gets earthquakes.

JMHO but this is a dead for the foreseeable future, way to expensive.

It's not that it can't be done, it is just everything else is more profitable. Same thing deepwater will be up against going forward.
