Trying to Diversify Better....Real Estate Crowdfunding....

I'm trying to mitigate some risk by diversifying my portfolio by incorporating more real estate (other than my home ). I read bunch of articles and trying to slowly wrap my head around this and here is what I'm thinking....
I don't think I want to invest in properties to rent out because I don't have the time nor energy to deal with it. So I became a bit more interested in REITs and then I learned more about crowdfunding real estate services (e.g., Rich Uncles, RealtyShares).
Has anyone used these types of services? What are your thoughts?

i had a buddy work for one as an analyst, seemed to offer a small boring return on investment with minimal effort.
Just a shade above bonds.

Some require you to be an accredited investor, some don't. How they choose to enforce that requirement is pretty loose. Realty Shares doesn't seem too stringent from what I can tell, but don't take that as license to be an idiot

If you're going to get exposure to real estate in REITs, generally I'd lean towards publicly traded REITs. The transparency is key IMO.

It seems like this is not an area I should get into until I do more research.
