Transferring accounts from Ed Jones to Vanguard questions

I currently have two accounts with Edward Jones.
1.My wife's IRA
2. a Roth I just recently started
My question is I want to transfer both of them over to Vanguard after realizing Im paying more for something I could do myself. However my Roth only has a balance of $500. Is there anyway to get around the $1,000 minimum with Vanguard. Or do I need to deposit $500 into the Edward Jones then turnaround and do an account transfer?
Which would be the better way?

Have you tried calling and speaking to them ? especially since the total of all the accounts is more ?

So you really can't do it better by yourself?

Call Vanguard. Every time I've transferred an IRA or 401k to them the customer service rep handled the majority of the work and I only needed to sign a couple forms.

You don't need to transfer it to EJones and then to Vanguard....you can simply give the cash portion to Vanguard & roll over the funds from EJones. Think of it as transferring the $1,000 minimum split between two different accounts to Vanguard (cause that's what it is).

Of course he can. Everyone can according to the money board.
