Good evening MT.

Just closed on a new house and need a refrigerator, washer and dryer.

I would like to put these on a credit card and pay them off with zero interest in 6-12 months if possible.

I am unsure on which card to go with. If I am understanding correctly, Lowe's is offering 6mo 0% on purchases over $500. I will be spending around $2500.

I have read terrible reviews of the company that is behind the Lowe's cards though.

Would a traditional card suit me better, such as a Discover "It" card?

It looks like the introductory is 12mo 0%, 5% cashback on certain items and unlimited 1% cashback.

This is my first bout with credit cards, just looking for some insight

UPDATE:

I decided to apply for the Chase Freedom card due to the 0% for 15 months.

I got denied!

Maybe I made a mistake applying by myself instead of including wife? Applying too early after home loan process?

Just closed on my house last Friday. FICO 750 at the time of home loan. The Chase paperwork says something about a score of 617

I have never had a credit card. I am co-signed on my wifes car loan and co-signor on recent home loan.

Slightly baffling and a major buzzkill. Do I call the backdoor number and talk to recon at Chase?

I'd buy them on the lowes card if you can get the best deal there. Couple other things to note:
- you also get 5% discount with the lowes card on purchases
- don't forget to get a new homeowners(relocation) packet from the post office, they include a 10% off lowes coupon.

I've moved several times

Read through the credit card thread. Might make more sense to buy something on a normal card and get the points if you are a hotel or airline card kind of person.
If not, the plan with the 0% might work.

What about getting the blue cash preferred and buying lowes gift cards at the grocery store? 6% cash back

Still think the best route is the lowes card.....he saves probably close to $400 cash by using the card 5% and the relocation discount 10%....and gets the added bonus of not having to pay it off for a year.

Lowes is 5% off OR 0% interest.

Now the 10% from the post office is legit and should work with the 0%.

You can purchase 10% off coupons for lowes on Ebay and other sources for about $1 each.

Chase freedom. 0% 15 months and 5% cash back on rotating categories. 1% on everything else. Also has $100 bonus

That sounds nice.

I am new to the credit cards. Is the "0% for 15 months" just for the initial purchase the first year, how does that work?

ETA: Do I have to have an account with Chase?

So if you got the card today, you would have 0% until 10/25/16. Any purchase you make with the card until 10/25/16 will have 0% interest until 10/25/16. As long as you are making at least the minimum payment.

You don't have to bank with chase to get a credit card

I got a lowes card when I bought my house. I chose the 5% off option and it worked out well, but whatever company issues the card is not a real credit card company. It is remarkably hard to pay your bill because it's not even a 16 digit card number, so you have to pay by phone or mail it in.

Sounds about right.

I have been reading horror stories about the company behind the card. Apparently when GE did it, it wasnt that bad. Then the current company got it and it went downhill.

Just get the card, get the discount/benefit, and cancel it. Who gives a shite about the company.
